Stars Hint ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ Easter Eggs In New Hallmark Christmas Movie
Hallmark’s Countdown To Christmas 2024 includes the highly-anticipated Sabrina The Teenage Witch reunion with Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea. This movie is called Holiday Mismatch. Broderick and Rhea are matched up again in this new holiday movie. However, they do promise some Easter Eggs from Sabrina where they played Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda.
Here is what they had to say.
What Are The Sabrina The Teenage Witch Easter Eggs In Hallmark’s Holiday Mismatch?
Hallmark’s Holiday Mismatch is a Sabrina The Teenage Witch reunion movie for Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea. The two portrayed Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda on the ABC series. Best of all, the duo told People Magazine that there are Easter Eggs in this Christmas movie.
Beth Broderick shared that Caroline “wore a piece of clothing from Sabrina that she’s thinking people will recognize, which it’s a pretty unmistakeable piece of clothing, but I don’t want to give it away.” The 65-year-old actress teased, “People will have to figure it out for themselves.”
As for her own Easter Egg, Beth revealed, “I do have a necklace of Aunt Zelda’s I snuck in there once or twice.”
As for Caroline Rhea, she confessed she is a creature of habit. “I did point to use magic once–which I thought was a hilarious thing–just out of sheer habit.”
What Is Holiday Mismatch About?
Hallmark’s Holiday Mismatch is about two women, Barbara and Kath. They are rivals who discover that they accidentally matched their adult kids on a dating app. Now, they have something in common. They are trying to split this couple up. But, their matchmaking was a success. Therefore, the two find that they have more in common than they realize.
In this movie, Barbara and Kath are opposites, like their Sabrina characters. Therefore, there was a familiarity in their roles now. Rhea shared, “Kath is like Hilda, completely free-spirted.” Then she joked about always playing the single woman. Beth Broderick has an explanation about this. She shared that it is “pretty similar because we are pretty darn well typecast.” But, it goes deeper than that. This starts with the fact that she is an introvert, while Caroline’s an extrovert.
While this bit of nostalgia seemed like something that Hallmark would have come up with, it was actually Caroline Rhea that suggested they cast Beth Broderick alongside her when she read Holiday Mismatch. She thought this was an opportunity to bring in their “natural comedic chemistry.” Now, they have a reunion that Sabrina fans cannot wait to see!
The premiere of Holiday Mismatch is on Sunday, November 3, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on the Hallmark Channel. In addition, Peacock subscribers can stream this up to 72 hours after the premiere.
