‘Live’ Kelly Ripa Calls Out Staff On-Air
Kelly Ripa had to stop her live show this week. She ended up looking over and calling out her staff for “arguing” during the broadcast of the morning talk show. As she began addressing her colleagues (who remained off-screen), the show also cut to longtime EP Michael Gelman and producer Scott Eason.
Here is what you need to know about the moment from Live.
Why Did Kelly Ripa Call Out Staff On Live?
While Kelly Ripa was talking on the Wednesday episode of Live With Kelly & Mark, she suddenly had to stop. She looked over and started to call out two people who seemed to be arguing on the set. It seemed that longtime executive producer Michael Gelman and producer Scott Eason had an audible discussion while Kelly and Mark were talking to start their show.
“Well, I don’t know, you seem like you two are having a discussion,” Kelly said. “Here’s the thing, neither one of you are invisible, and when our parents start arguing with each other over us, we are fully aware that it is happening. So, is there something you want to say to each other?” (via Entertainment Weekly).
It turns out that the argument was over something quite silly. Galman said that he wanted Easton to put a “bowl of pistachios” on the table for the cohosts to eat. He said they have the bowl on the side table, but he said Easton was “afraid to put them on the table.”
Kelly asked them to work it out. Mark then joked that he would have a “talk” after the show went to commercial. “This is a show I would watch, honestly. Tomorrow we should stand here, and you guys sit here,” Kelly joked.
Eason Explains Kelly Ripa Moment
In a moment shared as an Instagram stories video on the Live page, Scott Eason tried to explain himself. He said he felt it would be weird to just put the bowl there without any warning.
“I didn’t want to stick my arm creepily into the side of the screen,” Scott said in the video. He said the bowl was in an awkward spot, and it was not accessible to relocate the bowl at that time. He then said he wrote a note to Michael explaining that “We have the nuts.”
This was clearly a moment done in fun, with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos playing it off well. It was also another reason that watching the show remains fun every morning. Next month will be very different, though, as the show heads to the West Coast and will take place in a very unique location.
