Why Sam’s Death Is Good For ‘General Hospital’
General Hospital fans have accepted that Sam McCall is most likely going to die when Kelly Monaco leaves. The actress was fired in August after over two decades on the ABC soap. While fans are understandably upset about the exit, Sam’s death might be just what the soap needs.
Sam Survives Surgery, Now What?
Sam McCall heroically agreed to donate part of her liver to the comatose Lulu Spencer. She had doubts about the surgery, but ultimately went through with it. While fans speculated that Sam would die in the OR because Kelly Monaco is leaving, Sam survives the surgery.
General Hospital hasn’t confirmed that Sam McCall will die, but fans have accepted that is the most likely scenario. Her exact cause of death has yet to play out on-screen, but some viewers think Sam will die at the hands of Cyrus.
Why The Storyline Is Good For General Hospital
Kelly Monaco fans are not happy with the show’s decision to fire her. However, if they look at it objectively as a soap fan, it is actually a great storyline. After two decades in Port Charles, Sam McCall has ties to nearly everyone on canvas. Her death will have far-reaching consequences.
From Sonny to Lucky and Jason, Sam McCall had numerous romantic entanglements. Fans always wanted Sam and Jason to get back together. It never happened, but Jason will likely grieve his former love.
Sam got engaged to Dante right before the surgery. Her inevitable death means his ex-wife, Lulu, will live. To complicate matters, Lulu confessed to still loving him moments before the blast that put her in a coma. Will Dante ever be able to rekindle his romance with Lulu with the guilt of Sam’s death between them?
The Fallout For Sam’s Family
Sam’s mother, Alexis, will undoubtedly be devastated over losing her oldest daughter. Fans may recall that shortly before the surgery, Sam had a blowout fight with her sisters, Molly and Kristina. The feud between Molly and Kristina kept them from supporting Sam, something that they will have to live with after Sam’s death.
Laura and Lucky will have to grapple with the guilt of Sam dying and the joy that Lulu lives. General Hospital cast soap vet Alexa Havens in the role of Lulu, so we know that she will wake up from the coma at some point.
Do you think Sam McCall’s death is necessary for the good of the soap? Sound off in the comments.

I have mixed feelings over this, I’m sad that SAM will die, but her character has been so stagnant, I really don’t think I will miss her much. I never liked her with Dante, I’m glad he will move on albeit slowly I’m sure, it’s a daytime drama and I have lived through many characters dying the show goes on.
No absolutely not this is the worst decision ever!! I love Kelly and Sam I was also looking forward to Sam and Jason working their way back to each other, but tptb runied my favorite character. She had so much story left to tell and has dedicated 21 years of her life to this character. This is cruel and so, so wrong💔😢😭
People this is a soap opera! this is what soaps
do, they kill off characters that people like. Just like they did with Brando and Ryan Pavey. it’s good for Drama. Anyway the Sam character was going no where. I would be surprised if she shows up on days of our lives or Y&R at some point
I Brando and Nathan were relatively new characters. NOT the same.
No this fan does not agree with the firing of Kelly’s character Sam. GH writers are horrible. They need to get rid of them. The storylines are stupid and doesn’t make any sense. The EPs become writers is ridiculous. The storylines says it all. So speak for yourselves when u say the fans are happy. NOT. My GH fans are contemplating that watching at this time is a waste of our time.
No, her death actually will cost some viewers. We have lost enough characters on GH. The storylines are boring and annoying. It’s time for better writing!
