Tia Mowry Talks ‘Curse’ Of Child Stardom
Actress Tia Mowry is known for her work as a child star alongside her twin sister Tamera. The actress recently talked about the ups and downs of working in the entertainment industry at a young age. She also explained what made things different for her as a child star and what stayed the same.
Tia Mowry Talked About The Pressure Of Being Successful
Mowry discussed her experience as a child star during the October 25th episode of Tia Mowry: My Next Act. On the show, the newly single actress deals with motherhood and her life.
On the show, Mowry shared that she had some reluctance to her daughter Cairo joining the entertainment industry. Though she admitted her mind might change in the future, this is something she knows firsthand, having become a star at a young age, alongside her twin sister Tamera, thanks to the sitcom Sister, Sister.
As the actress explained, “I learned how to make money and work hard at a young age. That has carried into adulthood, but at the same time it is a curse. You are just a kid, and you are treated like an adult.”
Mowry continued that, “There was a lot of pressure as a child actor.” As she explained, it’s not a decision to take lightly, as it can effect other people. When an actor lands a job, it can effect the entire cast and crew.
“It is your job to make people smile and laugh. It is your job — especially with Sister, Sister — to make this show successful.”
Mowry Discussed Things She Missed Out On
In addition to Sister, Sister, the Mowry sisters are known for various projects with Disney. These include the movie Seventeen Again and the Halloween-themed Twitches films. The sisters have also appeared in Lifetime’s Double Wedding and their Style Network reality show, Tia & Tamera, together.
Mowry also discussed her start in the industry: “My sister and I were in Texas and we were doing a lot of pageants and talent shows. We were only in Los Angeles for three years before we booked Sister, Sister, and then life was never the same.”

However, as noted by Us Magazine, the actress assured that the “family dynamic” didn’t change too much. because of success. As she explained, “We had an allowance, chores and we were still kids.”
Mowry added that, “They protected me as much as they could, but the problem was they sheltered me so much because I was this child actor.” When asked if she felt she ever felt like she missed out on things, she shared, “I didn’t get the chance to do things other kids got to do. Like, I didn’t have a lot of friends. At a young age, I did lose out on a lot of things. I feel like I am definitely catching up on normal life now.”
