‘Ghosts’ Meets ‘Survivor’ In Series Of Crossover Promos
In a recent promo, three of the spectres from Ghosts have a new favorite show. In the start of a crossover-promotional event, characters from Ghosts will tune into episodes of Survivor. Interestingly, there is a special reason why one of the ghosts ended up becoming a fan of the competition series.
Dead Men Tell No Tales, But They Still Have Reality TV
In the CBS series, a remake of the British series of the same name, a woman named Sam inherits an old family home. After a near-death experience, she soon gains the ability to see the ghosts haunting the area. One of the show’s running jokes involves the ghosts catching up with modern television, as it is one of the few activities they can still enjoy.
According to a recent promo, the ghosts have a new favorite show. In the promo, two of the dearly departed, Pete, a 1980s scout leader, and Thor, a viking, are watching a reward challenge on Survivor.
Another ghost, Sam’s ancestor Hetty, walks in, asking if the two are watching “another one of your reality TV trifles?” Thor explains it’s Survivor, calling it, “very vicious, very fun.”
Pete then comments that he’d think Hetty would likely enjoy the show, going on to describe “the drama” and “the deception.” However, Hetty soon finds herself enthralled by “the dimples” of host Jeff Probst.
When Hetty asks if he can be eliminated, she’s assured he’s in every episode. This convinces her to enjoy the show “just this once.” Pete tries to explain the rules to her, but she quickly shushes him, since “Jeffrey’s speaking.” A narrator then tells viewers, “While the ghosts keep watching Survivor, you get to watch a new episode of Ghosts [on] CBS Thursday.”
Apparently, Hetty Isn’t The Only Fan Of Survivor
The ad is part of CBS’ latest promo campaign, which will see the eponymous ghosts watch survivor. A new spot will air every week during Survivor’s ad breaks. There will be new promos until the under of the reality show’s 47th season.
This means there will be promos well into December. The first week will only feature two promos. One will be released on social media while the other will air when Survivor cuts to commercial.
There’s a special reason Hetty was chosen for the spot. According to TVLine, the idea to make the “crossover” promos came about at San Diego Comic-Con when Hetty’s actress, Rebecca Wisocky, talked about Survivor with CBS Marketing staff. The promos are written by Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman.
