‘Life Before Zero’ Johnny Rolfe Talks Return To Main Show
Johnny Rolfe and his dog Java have made an impression on fans of Life Below Zero: Next Generation, also known as Alaska: The Next Generation. The series might be ending, but viewers might not have seen the last of Rolfe. The update also offers some good news for fans of the franchise.
A Man & His Dog Living In The Alaska Countryside
Throughout the series, Rolfe provides for himself and his dog, Java, with ethical forms of hunting, making sure to use as much of the animal he catches as he can. As he once described his furry friend: “The best companion in the mountains and wilderness is Java girl. Hands down. She seems to like observing them glaciers just as much as me.”
As seen in the show, he and Java live in a wooden cabin in Alaska’s countryside without many modern comforts. However, this hasn’t kept Rolfe from having a presence on social media.
As he shared on Instagram, “I’m deeply fascinated and have such a deep respect for them, more than I could if I never hunted and lived among them. Hunting is a way of life to me, a purpose and beyond.”
That said, as noted by Reality Tidbit, Rolfe took a bit of a hiatus from social media back in November 2023. However, he recently gave fans an update.
In fact, it was thanks to Rolfe’s Instagram account that he was able to share an update about his time on the show. One recent Instagram post of his, for example, shared photos of his life in Alaska, starting with an image of Java. He wrote in the post: “Some late summer photos at the cabin. It’s always nice to enjoy the lakes for a few months without ice. Fishing, paddling, berry picking. Java would agree that life is good.”
Johnny Rolfe Revealed The Fate Of The Show On Instagram
While many comments were about the photo or how some fans loved Java, others were curious about the show. As one commenter wrote, “When are you coming back to TV? We miss you!”
Another asked, “Is it true????? I just read that Life Below Zero – NG is not coming back for season 8? Season 7 I believe started in June of this year but that’s done. Can anyone confirm? I know you can’t believe everything you read on the net is true…….im so hoping this is not true.”

Rolfe himself responded to this in the comment section. As he explained, “[Next Gen.] is done, but they switched me over to the old school LBZ so you can catch me and java there.” This means that, even with the end of the series, fans will still get to see more of Rolfe and Java.
As previously reported, Chip Hailstone previously shared that he believed the show had been canceled. Rolfe’s news suggests that Life Below Zero hasn’t met its end just yet.
