Surfer Bethany Hamilton Updates Fans After Nephew Drowning
After surfer Bethany Hamilton posted about a personal family tragedy, she has a few positive updates to share.
Earlier in the week, the 34-year-old took to Instagram, pleading with fans to get her in touch with Dr. Paul Harch, a drowning specialist. Her three-year-old nephew apparently drowned, but still had a heartbeat and was fighting for his life in the hospital.
The situation is still dire, but the family has room for hope now. Read on to see Bethany’s updates.
Bethany Hamilton’s Cry For Help Paid Off
Surfer Bethany Hamilton is no stranger to tragedy and recovery. When she was 13, she lost her arm in a shark attack. But not long after, she was back in the water again.
The Hamiltons are a Christian family and rely on their faith to carry them through difficult times. When three-year-old Noah Hamilton drowned this week, they called on the public for prayers. Bethany penned an emotional note on Instagram, asking fans to put them in touch with a drowning specialist.
“We are wrecked. But I know how proper medical support can make or break someone’s chance of survival and in this case we’re asking for help from anyone who has information of what we can do to give my nephew the best chance,” she shared.

The Hamiltons Get In Touch With The Drowning Specialist
After coming forward about the incident, Bethany Hamilton happily revealed Dr. Harch was now involved with Noah’s case.
“Update please pray for Andrew and all his loved ones. Pray that we can do our best through this hard time. Much love🫶🏽” Bethany wrote in the comments after her initial post. Thankfully, she had more positive news to share shortly after.
“Update we got ahold of Dr Hatch [sic] 🙌” she continued.
“Update: We are hopeful 😭🙏🏽✨ Thank you for your prayers and support,” Bethany added later. “We are in contact with Dr Harch and many helpful individuals. We trust that God has Andrew in his hands.”
“I was not planning on posting about Andrew’s incident,” the surfer shared in an emotional post on Instagram Stories. “I didn’t want to go to the public in the first place, but I knew that it could potentially help him by getting more support and receiving more knowledge/help around what he’s going through.”
Coming forward with such a personal family tragedy can be incredibly difficult. But she feels so thankful that she did.
“It certainly has been a blessing,” Bethany added. “Thank you. I don’t plan on posting a lot. And will be off this space for the most part. Thank you for the love, prayers, knowledge, and support.”
