Countless fans were moved to tears after Celine Dion, 56, sang Hymne à L’amour (Hymn to Love) in front of the Eiffel Tower at the Summer Olympics in Paris. It was a showstopping performance and was even bigger after all her medical afflictions almost ended her singing career.
Celine had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome. This threatened to end her touring career and possibly her music career altogether. However, as her documentary showed, she persevered. She then used the Summer Olympics to show that a disease won’t stop someone who fights on.

What Are ‘Experts’ Saying About Celine Dion’s Performance?
According to the site, experts have said this was not a live performance. Composer and performer Etienne Guéreau said: “What we heard on TV was a corrected playback.”
The site also spoke to an unnamed sound engineer, who claimed, “It was 100% playback, you can hear it from the first notes.” Another unnamed expert said it was “without a shadow of a doubt” pre-recorded. They also claimed that she even rehearsed it with a pre-recorded track.
However, the Paris 2024 organizers said that it was a live performance when she performed. They refused to comment on the new accusations at all, referring to their original statement. Dion sang Hymne à L’amour because it was originally sung by the late French music icon Edith Piaf.
Dion admitted in 2022 that she was suffering from stiff-person syndrome, which causes muscles to stiffen and spasm. This ended her touring career, but she has been rehabbing and working her way through it. She said she would perform at the Summer Olympics, “even if I have to crawl.” Over 104,000 people attended the Opening Ceremony.
