The Challenge contestant Derrick Kosinski was eliminated this week after wowing fans with his performance. He only had one good leg to work with, but he put up a fight against his fellow competitors. Now, he is opening up about what it was like to have a serious leg injury on the show. Keep reading to see what he has to say.

Derrick Kosinski Talks Serious Leg Injury

Derrick Kosinski was a three-time champion on The Challenge. Viewers at home saw him compete in several challenges on an injured leg.

When it came down to it, he was Era 1’s last man standing. In episode 8 of Season 40, he went up against Era 3’s Cory Wharton in a brutal blindfolded boxing elimination. Even though he only had one good leg, he really put up a great fight against Cory.

The Challenge contestant spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his injury and how difficult it was not to throw in the towel. Derrick revealed that he was diagnosed with a blown-out, torn ACL and a torn meniscus as well as an LCL strain.

“When you talk about competing on a torn ACL and meniscus, it kept on coming out of place and me having to pop it back in, multiple times, just walking,” he said.

Derrick continued, “So I knew that win or lose this elimination, I wasn’t going to continue much longer. I think that next day I was going to go get an MRI, and I don’t know what was going to happen.”

The Challenge Competitor Welcomed New Baby

He also revealed that if he had won against Cory Wharton there was a good chance that he wouldn’t have continued in the competition. There were a lot of “raw emotions” that Derrick showed in the latest episode and The Challenge competitor said that he was “scared.”

“I’m going up against big, strong, athletic men on a muddy, slippery surface. If two or three of these guys land on me, if my knee just snaps?” he told EW.

In the end, Derrick said that he felt his elimination came at a good time. He said he thought it was God’s way of saying “You have to go home to your wife who’s nine months pregnant, and you are not going to continue playing this game as much as you want.”

Additionally, he wound up having to have surgery on his knee to repair what was wrong with it. The Challenge competitor said that he waited for his son, Maverick to be born. Then, once his wife was medically cleared after giving birth, he was able to schedule surgery.

That said, Derrick said there were “no pity parties here.” He’s happy with how his life has picked up since leaving the show.

The Challenge airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
