‘Sister Wives’ Meri Brown Is Heartbroken Over Divorce From Kody
It’s official! Things are over between Meri Brown and Kody Brown. A clip from the upcoming episode of Sister Wives shows Meri talking about being “heartbroken” following their divorce through the church. Continue reading to see what she has to say.
Meri Brown Traveled To Get An Official Release From The Church
In a clip from the Sunday, October 13 episode of Sister Wives, Meri Brown talks about the process of divorcing Kody. The couple got legally divorced in 2014, but she took the additional step to officially divorce Kody through their church, the Apostolic United Brethren.
She explains in the clip, “I texted Kody and said, ‘Hey, I started the process. In two weeks, if you want to give any input, have anything to do with it or whatever’ and he never responded to my text.”
The Sister Wives star went on to share that she took a trip to Utah to “meet with the leaders” of the church. After her meeting, she was granted an official divorce or a “release.”
“I was granted what is called in our church, a release, which is basically the equivalent of a divorce,” she says in a confessional. “It was a very, very hard conversation, hard in meaning heartbreaking because this is not what I wanted to do. This is not what I intended when I married Kody.”
Meri Brown went on to explain that their marriage was still strong at the time of their legal divorce in 2014.
“Back in 2014, Kody and I did do a legal divorce, and for me, that whole process was purely for the fact that he could then marry Robyn legally and then adopt her three older kids,” she says. “But our spiritual marriage, our spiritual ceiling was still intact.”
The Sister Wives star continued, saying that marriage is meant to be for “eternity.” However, now that she was officially released, it’s “done.”
Kody Is Glad Meri Realized It’s Been Done & Over For Years
Previously, Meri Brown shared her reasons for wanting to end her marriage to Kody. She acknowledged that Kody lost interest in the relationship and she didn’t want to be “sealed to him for eternity” if he wasn’t interested in her. Eventually, she got to the point that she wanted to completely separate everything from him.
Meri also shared that Kody Brown was actually resistant to the official release through the church. Despite his hesitancy, Meri decided to move forward because she felt like she’d been living in limbo for nearly 10 years.
For his part, Kody said that there was no way to reconcile things with Meri. “However we are made accountable to God, I don’t want to be accountable to this church and all their BS,” he says. “So I’m going to let Meri go and do her thing because if I’m angry at her, it becomes a fight. I needed her just to go away because it just took forever for her to finally realize it’s been done and over for years.”
The couple first confirmed their separation publicly in January 2023 after being together for 32 years.
