Deadliest Catch Fans Slam Boat Crew For Safety

Season 20, Episode 14 of Deadliest Catch showed fans yet another medical emergency play out on television. Deckhand Chino, who is on Jake Anderson’s boat the Titan Explorer, was struck by a crab pot while working. He cried out in pain.

Crab pots can weigh as much as 800 pounds, so this can be a serious problem. His screams got the attention of his crew mates and they swiftly got him inside.

Grabbing the back of his head, Chino could be heard saying that he couldn’t feel his legs. His crew mates laid him down while a neck brace was put on. A producer can be heard asking if he could feel his legs. Chino responded, “I can feel some, but I can’t move it right.”

“Can’t feel his legs but let’s sit him up and move him all around. These people need a crash course on basic medical before going to sea,” one person wrote on social media.

Another viewer wrote, “I see they get head injuries from time to time. Given the expensive healthcare plans in the US, I can’t help but wonder why they don’t use hard hats? So little safety gear given the harsh weather they work in.”

A third fan commented, “There needs to be a certified medical officer on all these ships. Anyone trained in even basic first aid knows you don’t do this.”

Chino Nearly Went Overboard A Few Weeks Ago

This isn’t the first time Chino was in trouble during this season of Deadliest Catch. In the episode that aired on September 17, he was almost knocked overboard when the boat hit choppy waters.

Thankfully, Chino was found on top of the crab pots. Captain Jake was so glad to see that he was okay. “I just took a wave and the boat rolled,” Jake said. “I just thought Chino fell over.”
