‘Deadliest Catch’ Captain Keith Colburn Facing Health Crisis
Captain Keith Colburn, known for appearing on Deadliest Catch, is undergoing a health crisis after an emergency at sea. As seen on the show, the captain became unresponsive while at sea, facing rough waters to get to come close to medical aid. Fans have also taken to social media to share their reactions to the story.
The Bond Between Brothers Monte & Keith Colburn
Deadliest Catch is a long-running reality series on the Discovery Channel. The series revolves around a group of crab fishermen based in the Bering Sea. On the show, Keith Colburn and his brother Monte “Mouse” Colburn serve as captains of the fishing vessel, F/V Wizard.
As recently shown on the show, Colburn suffered a cardiac event while aboard the Wizard. At the time, he and his brother Monte had a confrontation about a recent financial loss.
Keith could be seen collapsing inside the wheelhouse, where he was found unresponsive. Monte took the lead, trying to get his brother to the closest airstrip to help his brother get a medevac.
As noted by Monsters & Critics, Keith’s health issues have been featured before on the show. Back in 2018, he faced osteomyelitis, a spinal bacterial infection, which nearly prevented him from continuing the season. He had also been shown dealing with an umbilical hernia.
Fans Have Also Been Reacting To What Happened
During his recent health crisis, Keith Colburn reported symptoms like numbness and tingling on his left side, resembling a mini-stroke. The incident was all the more tense as the Wizard was in dangerous waters.
In addition, the fishing vessel was believed to be around 60 miles from the nearest port. Fortunately, the crew was able to stabilize Keith until he was brought to Anchorage General Hospital.
As Monsters & Critics noted, the sequence showcases both the tensions of working on the water and the bond between the Colburn brothers, as well as the crabbing community in general. Viewers will also likely get to see Keith’s recovery following the crisis in upcoming episodes, with fans hoping to get updates on his condition.
Fans have also been sharing their thoughts over the recent happenings. After the show’s Twitter posted a video of the incident, one X user wrote, “Why do they record these things instead of trying to get the guy medical helicoptered out first. I mean I get they are out in the sea but there’s got to be something.”
As the post continued, “When this kind of thing happened to Phil it broke my heart haven’t watched [since].” Another asked, “Just call the Coast Guard Monty! Hard episode to watch and digest. What was the root cause for not asking for a helicopter medical evacuation? Cost to the boat? Distance of a USCG MH-60? (Not try to troll, trying to learn).”
