‘Survivor 47’ Finally Introduces New Villain
Reality television is full of iconic villains. In fact, there is a whole reality show based on just the villains themselves. However, few shows out there have churned out as many TV villains as Survivor. Every season seems to have a standout villain, but many people were unsure of who it would be for Season 47. Now, the villains have finally made themselves known. So, who is it and what are fans saying? Keep reading to find out.
Rome Cooney Is The New Villain For Season 47
Many viewers have noticed something about the “Modern Era” of Survivor and its villains. The baddies from Season 41 and onward have been less in-your-face. Now, the new villain for Survivor 47 Rome Cooney is changing that.
In the original installations of Survivor, the “villains” wouldn’t bother to mask their true selves on camera. The “Modern Era” has seen more people willing to try to appeal to the audiences at home. Rome has changed that a bit. He’s really a cast member viewers are beginning to love to hate.
Rome Cooney is fairly vocal about how great he thinks he is. The Lavo Tribe is constantly looking on in annoyance while he’s hoarding supplies and bragging about how good he is at using them. As if that’s not “yuck” enough on its own, Rome seems to be unbelievably lucky on the show so far.
His attitude really calls back to some of the earliest episodes of Survivor. Rome’s way of doing things has already led to some intense conflicts, just three episodes into Season 47. Trailers for the next few episodes show that things are only going to get more heated when it comes to Rome.
‘Traditional’ Survivor Villains Making A Comeback?
Many viewers are happy to see the “traditional” Survivor villain back on the small screen. However, it’s important to remember that the toxic behavior of past villains was often problematic in itself.
Some of the reality show’s early seasons were plagued by racism, homophobia, and other types of hatred. These underlying personality traits were often hidden behind the “campy villain” character the person was trying to play. For a long time, it seemed like Survivor was making that kind of behavior aspirational for players.
That said, Survivor 47 isn’t doing that at all. They’ve already poked fun at Rome’s behavior several times. It is also clear that none of his fellow castaways are impressed by how he acts. His aggravating nature brings something back to the show that’s been missing in recent years. It’s entertaining and really brings the reality show back to its roots.
Survivor airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
