Kelly Ripa Teary During Live Interview
In a recent interview on Live With Kelly and Mark Kelly Ripa held back tears as she spoke about the emotional loss of someone important to her. Kelly, 54, began the October 2nd interview by paying tribute to Yvette Siegel-Herzog. Yvette was important in the life of Kelly’s children.
Someone Close Dies
Kelly Ripa was vocal about the loss of her friend Yvette Siegel-Herzog. Yvette was important to Kelly and her family. Yvetta was responsible for taking Kelly and her husband Mark Consuelos’s youngest son Joaquin Consuelos to school. Kelly said, “every now and again, there’s a person that enters your life that changes it for the better in ways that seem momentous at the time, but then you flash-forward 10 years, and you go, my gosh, the way this woman has impacted and changed the course of our lives, our family’s lives, can’t be overstated.” Kelly dearly misses her friend.
Yvetta Siegel-Herzog passed away at the age of 100. Kelly said that she was “really crushed”. Kelly continued to say “I didn’t want to come to work today, I think about all of the generations of kids that she’s impacted and what great lovers of learning they’ve become because of her. I thank her and may your legacy live many, many lifetimes.”
Kelly’s Son Joaquin Has Dyslexia And Dysgraphia
Kelly Ripa’s son Joaquin Consuelos is now 21 years old and off to college. The talk show host has dealt with some other emotional times over him lately. She has been open about the fact that Joaquin has both dyslexia and dysgraphia. Kelly says that Joaquin’s learning disabilities have made an impact on his choice of college. She said “Mark and I were FaceTiming the other night … Mark got very emotional, and very choked up, because he said, ‘You know, I never thought he would be able to go to college.’ Because he was profoundly dyslexic and dysgraphic.”
Kelly Ripa advocates for her son and says that he has reached his goal of attending college “through hard work, determination [and] remediation.” She continued ”But, kids with dyslexia learn how to read the room, they pick up on social cues … their other skills become [stronger].” Joaquin Consuelos decided to go to the University of Michigan, where he is currently a member of the school’s wrestling team.
Kelly opened up about the emotional time of dropping her son off at college. She said “We dropped him off at school and we gave him a hug — it was actually brutally painful, and I said, ‘I did not realize that 18 years would go so fast.’ And he didn’t say anything, he was just giving me a hug. But he turned to walk away and I said, ‘Wait, Joaquin, one more!’ And he kept walking. And I knew that it was happening to him too, the emotion.”
