Richard Simmons’ brother revealed little secrets about his funeral during a speech at the fitness guru’s celebration of life over the weekend. Family, friends, and fans gathered in New Orleans on Saturday to celebrate the life of Richard. During his speech, Lenny Simmons shared some details about his late brother with the crowd. Here’s what he revealed.
Lenny Simmons Shares ‘Little Secret’ About Richard
In his speech, Lenny told everything that Richard Simmons was actually buried in his signature workout clothes. He sported the look that so many people recognized him for underneath his regular clothes. It was “a little secret.”
“Just like Clark Kent underneath his beautiful things that he was wearing, his clothing, [Richard] is wearing a tank top and shorts,” his brother said. “Why, you ask? Because we think that God has another plan for him, and we want to make sure that he was going to be in his normal costume that we all know and love to help the saints and the angels get into shape.”
He continued, “So I’m here to say to you that even though he’s not here and I know he’s in spirit here tonight, Richard Simmons will forever be sweating with the Holies.”
Celebration Comes Amid Ongoing Battle For Richard Simmons’ Estate
Richard Simmons died on July 13, one day after his 76th birthday. He was discovered by his long-time friend and housekeeper Teresa Reveles. His cause of death was determined to be accidental. Richard had suffered from recent falls and also had heart disease, which could have contributed to his death.
On Saturday, October 5, fans got a chance to attend the fitness guru’s celebration of life in New Orleans. The family also extended the invitation to watch the event via live video.
The celebration comes amid a legal battle between Lenny Simmons and Teresa Reveles over Richard’s estate. In September, Teresa filed a petition that stated she was pressured by Lenny and his wife, Cathy, to sign over her role as a co-trustee of the estate. She is hoping to have her role as co-trustee be restored. Teresa is also hoping to block Lenny from being able to use Richard’s likeness and image for profit.
“Richard’s message was always one of joy and positivity. He would be heartbroken to learn of Teresa’s greed and insulted that she would diminish their three decades of supposed friendship in such a public way,” the family stated in relation to Teresa’s petition. “Her actions threaten to harm Richard’s incredible legacy, which we are working hard to preserve.”
Richard Simmons was best known for his line of aerobics videos called Sweatin’ to the Oldies. People everywhere loved his attitude and he encouraged many to lose weight and live healthier lives.
