‘GH’ Steve Burton Talks Jason & Anna’s Kiss
On his podcast, actor Steve Burton talked about a recent kiss involving his character on General Hospital. While doing so, he explained what it was like in the moment of the kiss. He also discussed whether or not more was to come from it.
Jason & Anna Find Each Other In A Hopeless Moment
Burton plays the character of Jason Morgan on General Hospital, having joined the cast in 1991. Burton had taken on the role from Bryan Beck, who was initially played by Quinn Carlson. Playing the character off-and-on over the years, he most recently reprised the character in 2024.
On their Daily Drama podcast, Burton and Bradford Anderson, who plays Damian Spinelli on the show, talked about some recent developments on the show. In particular, they talked about the battle sequence to protect Lucky and bring him back home.
One point of interest was the kiss between Burton’s character Jason Morgan and Anna, played by Finola Hughes. As Burton discussed, “This was a little hard to navigate in the sense that, you know, ‘Oh, we’re both dying,’ and then you just kiss. These are two people who’ve been in danger their whole lives, and I don’t think Jason has a great fear of dying.”
Burton felt that Jason has grown a lot at this point in the show. More to the point, his kids have given him something to fight for and a reason to live.
For his part, Anderson wondered if there was more to come following this kiss. As he asked, “Storywise, is there going to be something after this, or is this just like a flash in the pan? What are we building towards? Or are we not building to anything?”
Burton Addressed Whether The Kiss Should Lead To More
Burton felt that the kiss should lead to more and not just be glossed over. He also felt it made sense for the moment, as “I think maybe from the writers’ standpoint, Jason and Anna have had a good alliance. They have worked together well.”
As noted by Soap Hub, the kiss occurred at a point where both characters thought they were going to die. As Burton put it, “And then I made the choice to kiss her. And then we’ll see what happens.”
Outside of his work on General Hospital, Steve Burton is also known for his role of Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless. One of his first soap opera roles was Harris Michaels on Days of Our Lives back in 1988.
For her part, Hughes is known for her work on the soaps General Hospital. and All My Children. Outside of soaps, she is also known for hosting the reality makeover series How Do I Look? and for portraying Patty Halliwell on the fantasy series Charmed.
As previously reported, Hughes herself talked about the kiss with Soap Opera Digest. As she shared, “It was a bit of a shock. I wasn’t sure where it was coming from…There is something different about these circumstances, and luckily, we were working with an actor [Rota] whose [believability] was very helpful in all of that, in it seeming like we were going to die, more so than in other situations.”
