‘General Hospital’ Is Sonny Corinthos On His Way Out?
General Hospital fans think that the current storyline is pointing toward Maurice Benard’s character Sonny Corinthos leaving the soap. The soap star has been on GH since August of 1993 and the character has been an integral part of the show for more than 30 years. So, will Sonny be exiting General Hospital any time soon? Who’s Going Down For Sonny’s Crime?
Maurice Benard has been fairly upfront about the future of his career on the small screen. He has recently said that he is going to wait a couple of years before he retires. As soap fans know, the actors don’t always get to make that decision. Sometimes the writers will make it for them.
The current General Hospital storyline has gone off the rails a bit. Unsurprisingly, Sonny has hurt some of the people closest to him once again. Now, it looks like Alexis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn) and Kristina (Kate Mansi) could be heading to jail for a murder he committed.
If he decides to do the right thing and admits to killing Jagger Cates (Adam J. Harrington), he could potentially save Alexis and Kristina. However, he’d also be putting Carly (Laura Wright) and Michael (Chad Duell) in hot water since they helped him cover up the crime.
General Hospital Fans Weigh In On Sonny’s Potential Departure
As fans watch this play out, they have started to wonder what the end game is going to be for Sonny. Many viewers have taken to Reddit to discuss what’s next.
One long-time viewer said that they believed Sonny could be on his way out. They said it was “surprising” to see the soap character just kill Jagger on screen with “no real build up.” The person went on to say they don’t think they’ve ever seen the character kill someone on camera like that. So, what’s next for Sonny? Is it prison? Could there be some kind of redemption story?
Fellow General Hospital fans took to the comments to consider what might happen next in the mobster’s storyline.
- “I think he killed AJ like that. I’m not 100% sure,” one person tried to recall. “What I do find strange is that he did it when he was back ON his meds. Wasn’t the whole point of his being off his meds that he was out of control?? That would have made much more sense.”
- “MB recently said on an IG Live that he has 2 years left before he retires,” another fan pointed out.
- A third fan wrote, hopefully, “I would love Maurice’s final storyline to be a trial, for Jagger’s murder, where Sonny is confronted on all his crimes over the years.”
A number of people in the comments said they hoped this was the end of Sonny Corinthos. Many General Hospital viewers have expressed that they’re tired of Sonny and Carly dominating the storyline. Others said they hoped Sonny was around for a while longer, with some saying that his character is what got them into the show.
Whatever the case may be, the current storyline is setting things up for an intense November sweeps.
