Zendaya Doesn’t Watch ‘DWTS,’ Cites ‘Stressful Experience’

After Dancing With The Stars comes to a close, contestants return to their normal lives. Some take away fond memories, while others feel a little less satisfied with their time on the show. Actress Zendaya recently admitted she had very stressful experiences while competing.

Zendaya Isn’t Interested In Watching Dancing With The Stars

DWTS Season 16 took place in the spring of 2013. At the time, 16-year-old Zendaya was best known for her roles on Disney Channel. She accepted the invitation to join the dance competition, but it wasn’t quite what she expected.

Although she and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy performed exceptionally well, Zendaya says it was incredibly stressful. To this day, she does not watch the show.

“I have not watched Dancing With The Stars since I was on,” the actress shared with Entertainment Weekly. “I didn’t really watch Dancing With The Stars before I was on Dancing With The Stars. I don’t think I was the target demographic. My grandma loves Dancing With The Stars, that’s her bag. But yeah, I also think it was a very stressful experience. I was like, I don’t think I’m gonna be watching this anymore.”

Zendaya and Val ultimately finished in second place behind Derek Hough and Kellie Pickler.

Pro Dancer Val Chmerkovskiy Feels Proud Of The Actress

Val Chmerkovskiy has a reputation for being a harsh teacher, but he really gets results. He’s the reigning DWTS champion and has been in the finale multiple times.

While he was Zendaya’s partner, he saw a bright future ahead of her.

“Nearly 8 years ago I got the pleasure to teach a brilliant young woman how to ballroom dance on @dancingabc .. After giving it every ounce of our effort we came in second,” Val shared on Instagram back in 2020. “Devastated by the loss I remember telling her that one day you’ll be winning an Oscar and part of the reason why will be this feeling of defeat you feel right now. … Our season on DWTS, and now your continued success since has brought me ridiculous amount of joy. I’m so proud of you Z! Youngest ever winner of an Emmy for a leading role. You’re a superstar, and always have been! Love you fam to many more wins in your life.”
