‘Deadliest Catch’ Fans React To Captain Keith’s Emergency At Sea

Deadliest Catch Captain Keith Colburn

Deadliest Catch fans are concerned about Captain Keith Colburn following this week’s episode. The beloved captain suffered a medical emergency while he was away at sea. What viewers saw was one of the most intense situations shown on the Discovery program in 20 years. Continue reading to see what happened and how Keith is doing now.

Captain Keith Colburn Has Major Medical Emergency

The incredibly intense scene started with an argument between Captain Keith Colburn and his brother Monte. Keith collapsed in the wheelhouse and was unresponsive for a moment.

Then, the Deadliest Catch captain wound up sitting on a bench. He can be heard saying that his left side was numb. Tearing up, he informs them that he can’t feel his left arm.

With those symptoms, there was some concern that he’d suffered a stroke or a heart attack. He was visibly upset and worried about what the outcome would be.

Although he tried to play it off like it wasn’t a huge deal, Monte stepped into action. He began to receive some directions over the communication system from medical professionals. As the situation continued to play out on screen, it seemed like it became more important that the ship get to Saint Paul Harbor and get Captain Keith transported to a hospital.

However, Monte was up against less-than-hospitable conditions. He was dealing with the stress of his brother having a medical emergency, but he was also navigating through rough swells and dangerous conditions on the water.

Deadliest Catch Fans Question Reaction To Keith’s Problem

Fellow Deadliest Catch captains Sig Hansen and Jake Anderson were deeply concerned for Keith. What they were hearing seemed similar to a heartbreaking event that played out at sea 14 years ago.

Long-time fans remember when Captain Phil Harris suffered a stroke while at sea. He was air-lifted from St. Paul Island in Alaska. However, he died 11 days later.

Luckily, Monte was able to get the Wizard F/V to land. Fans watching at home were concerned about how long it took him to get to shore though. Additionally, Captain Keith would have to go to the hospital via ambulance, which would add more time before he got his critical care.

Once Keith was off to get some medical attention, Monte was faced with the decision to go back out to sea and head to the end of the crabbing season without his brother.

Seeing this play out on television, one fan questioned why the cameras continued rolling while Keith was going through this scary event. “Why do they record these things instead of trying to get the guy medical helicoptered out first,” the viewer wrote on X. “I mean I get they are out in the sea but there’s got to be something. When this kind of thing happened to Phil it broke my heart, haven’t watched [since].”

Another person asked why Monte didn’t call the Coast Guard, but it was pointed out that the airlift wouldn’t be able to come for several hours. It truly was a dire situation.

Fans will get to see how things play out in the next episode, which airs on October 8. Thankfully, Captain Keith Colburn has been active on social media, so it’s known that he’s recovered from the medical event.

Deadliest Catch airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on Discovery.
