Travis Kelce Talks New Game Show Job

Travis Kelce has talked about his new job as the host of a reboot of a popular game show. Kelce also discussed how much game shows meant to him when he was a kid. He also let on which member of his family he’d thought would be a good fit for the show.

A Famous Game Show Is About To Get Star-Studded

Kelce served as the football tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, going on to nine-time Pro Bowler and and seven-time All-Pro. However, outside of the game, Kelce has also started to make a name for himself through television, both scripted and reality.

The athlete can add game show host to his resume, being the new host of Are You Smarter than a Celebrity?, which serves as a reboot of the Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? series. In this show, however, the classroom is filled with celebrity guests.

Extra‘s Billy Bush talked with Kelce on the set of the game show about the new hosting gig and his future plans. Kelce aditted he’s been fond of game shows since he was young and feels the new job could be a good fit. As he explained, “I’ll tell you what, I enjoyed game shows as a kid so maybe this is the lane. I’m enjoying it today.”

“When I was a kid, I used to literally play hooky from school… I used to sit there and just watch game shows all day and it’s always been something for me and I always imagined I would enjoy it and sure enough as I’m doing it today, I’m enjoying it.”

On the discussion of him television work, Kelce felt like he was still getting his start in the business. As noted by Extra TV, he explained, “I’ve dabbled in the scripted world, into the acting world… I feel like an amateur, but I do enjoy it.”

Kelce Thinks A Family Member Of His Would Make A Good Contestant

From his television work to his relationship with Taylor Swift, Kelce explained that he’s grown accustomed to the spotlight. As he put it, “I think it was all the home videos my mom used to have with the old camcorder, the handheld joint, at the house. I just always felt comfortable with the camera on me and the lights on me.”

“Sure enough, I love a good challenge. I get excited for a challenge, something that I haven’t done before is something that really makes me focus and be or do something that I haven’t done before. There’s something about that that I got a love for.”

However, Kelce also admitted one issue he has as a game show host: it’s hard not being able to help the players. As he explained, “They will fire me if I give them any help. I have to be up here with a poker face because there is a lot of money on the line. But you already know, it’s in my heart to help everyone out. I’m a team player. I’m a team player.”

Kelce also suggested his brother Jason would make a good contestant for the series. As he explained, “He was very studious. He was an honors student, he tested well and all that and everything. He decided to be in all advanced classes.”

Are You Smarter than a Celebrity? with premiere with a 20-episode season on Amazon Prime Video. The first three episodes will be available for streaming on October 16, 2024.
