Big Brother Alum Rushed To The Hospital With Double Pneumonia

Many Big Brother fans probably remember Austin as the contestant on Season 17 with a number of different wrestling names. In fact, he became better known by his made-up names like Luchasaurus.

However, he now goes by Killswitch and has become quite a good wrestler. He is an AEW Trios, Tag Team, and TNT champion.

He faired pretty well on Big Brother too. He nearly made it to the very end (finishing in fifth place) and Austin had a lengthy showmance with Liz Nolan too.

Considering what he’s been up to since he left the Big Brother house, it may come as a surprise that he’s having such significant health issues.

On Friday, September 27, Austin Matelson was found collapsed. After being rushed to the hospital, it was determined that he was suffering from pneumonia in both lungs. As a result, his blood oxygen level was below 80%, and was put on oxygen for several days.

Austin Matelson’s Wrestling Career Paused During Recovery

Before appearing on Big Brother, Austin kicked off his professional wrestling career with the WWE. He partnered up with Corey Graves under the name Judas Devlin. After he suffered a severe hip injury, Austin was released from the WWE.

That’s around the time that Big Brother fans got to meet him. Following his time on the reality show, he returned to pro wrestling. Austin joined Lucha Underground in 2016.

He went on to win several championship titles, including the All-Star Wrestling Tag Team Championship, the Millennium Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, and DDT Pro-Wrestling Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship.

Although Austin is expected to make a full recovery, he still has a long road ahead of him. Recovery time for the severity of his illness could be longer than a month. Unfortunately for wrestling fans, Killswitch won’t be making a return to the mat for a while.

Some of Austin’s fellow wrestlers took to social media to wish him well.

British wrestler Simon Miller wrote, “Man, all the best to Luchasaurus. Always such a good dude (dinosaur) when I’ve run him into him. Sending him positive thoughts and a swift recovery.”

His former team-mate Marko Stunt chimed in, “Whatever @luchasaurus has going on in his head right now, idk. But I’ll never forget the times he stuck his neck out for me, both in and outside the ring. Genuinely cared for and protected me.”

You can watch old episodes of Big Brother, including all of Season 17, on Paramount+.
