Why Carrie Underwood Will Not Make As Much As Katy Perry
Carrie Underwood will not make as much as Katy Perry. Though she is replacing the idol judge, it seems ABC will not be paying her the same salary as the past judge.
Carrie Underwood Is “The Champion”
Carrie Underwood is a well-known American singer. The country singer made her mark on the world when she was named the Season 4 winner of American Idol in 2005.
The 41-year-old is most prominently known for her hit “Before He Cheats” which is a karaoke favorite. Additionally, the star has been married to Canadian ice hockey center, Mike Fisher.
Now, Underwood is going back to her reality TV show roots. Katy Perry is leaving her judges seat to focus on her music and Underwood is taking over. She will be joining for Season 23.
Even though she was allegedly not the first choice for the coveted TV series, she has promised to do her best and judge fairly while still being kind and supporting dreams. Other judges have even shown their support for her entry.
Up Next On American Idol
Another famous singer was preferred for the judge position. An insider from ABC revealed, “It’s well known internally that Miley Cyrus was the network and the producers’ first choice to replace Katy, but topping Katy’s already-high salary was never on the table with Miley.”
Miley Cyrus is another well-known pop singer. However, she did not get her claim to fame from American Idol as Carrie Underwood did. Cyrus got a starring role on the Disney Channel series, Hannah Montana which skyrocketed her success. Thus, making the switchover to music almost too easy.
Additionally, the ABC insider noted, “Katy’s enormous salary was an outlier and it was that high because ABC was asking for a lot of her time away from making music and performing, more time than she had ever given something other than her own pop career.”
Even though Perry had a high salary, she did not have the biggest salary from previous Idol judges. Simon Cowell holds that title with her following behind. Cowell is now the lead judge on the series he created, America’s Got Talent.
The Negotiation
Furthermore, Underwood has “been part of the Idol family since its early days and she has a vested interest in the franchise continuing,” the insider remarked. Thus, allegedly made things “different” in the discussion of negotiations.
Moreover, the source noted that Underwood isn’t money-hungry. Thus, stating, “Another one of Carrie’s strengths is her humility, and Carrie did not need to be offered a Katy-sized salary to come back into the franchise.”
This is why, ABC selected and hired the country star once she accepted her $25 million each season salary. In addition, this is approximately only half of what Katy Perry was paid.
