How Did Vicky & Casey White Meet?
Jailbreak: Love on the Run focuses on the story of Casey and Vicky White. Casey, who was serving life in prison, escaped with the help of Vicky White, a correctional officer at the Lauderdale County Jail in Alabama.
Casey White, 41, was serving a 75-year sentence for a 2015 crime spree that included home invasion, carjacking, shootings, and kidnapping. He was also awaiting a capital murder trial for the stabbing death of 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway, which he confessed to while in prison.
While he was serving his time in Alabama, he met Vicky White, the assistant corrections director at the prison. They spoke to each other frequently, exchanging more than 1,000 phone calls.
The pair allegedly fell in love, which led to Vicky’s bizarre behavior. She helped spring him from jail on April 29, 2022.
Following an 11-day manhunt, authorities caught Vicky and Casey at a car wash in Evansville, Illinois. They fled the scene, leading to a police chase that ultimately ended in Vicky and Casey’s car flipping.
After the accident, Vicky reportedly died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Casey, on the other hand, escaped the crash with minor injuries. He was charged with first-degree escape and criminal murder. Casey pleaded guilty to the escaped charge. The criminal murder charge in relation to Vicky’s death was dismissed.
He was handed down a life sentence in June 2023. At his sentencing hearing, he told people in the court that he loved Vicky and addressed her mother in the courtroom, saying, “It wasn’t supposed to go that way.”
Netflix Doc Talks To Vicky’s Friends & Family
Many people in Vicky’s life couldn’t understand what led her to take such drastic actions. She was only two days away from retiring and threw everything away helping Casey escape. The Netflix documentary will include interviews with people who were close to Vicky.
Vicky and her ex-husband, Tommy White, got married in 2002. However, Tommy was abusing drugs and Vicky decided to leave. The pair officially got divorced in 2006. After that, Vicky continued to look for love.
Frances, Tommy’s mother, still had a good relationship with her ex-daughter-in-law though. In her own interview, Frances talked about how she always saw Vicky as a daughter. Even Frances didn’t see what Vicky did coming. She was flabbergasted that she’d ever do something like this.
