GH Fans Pull Out All The Stop To Save Kelly Monaco’s Job
Kelly Monaco joined General Hospital in 2003 as Sam McCall, a con artist with a heart of gold. The character is the long-lost daughter of Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Julian Jerome (William deVry.) Sam quickly found herself in a relationship with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton,) which has played out with several twists and turns throughout the years. She’s currently involved with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Jason just shared an unexpected kiss with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes.)
It was revealed in August that Kelly Monaco was fired from General Hospital after 21 years. Fans quickly rallied and tried to convince ABC to reverse the decision. Multiple petitions were created and her fans even put up a billboard in Times Square. According to Soap Opera Digest, a billboard truck was even sent to the studios where the soap films.
Kelly Monaco Wraps Up Filming After Firing
Despite the nearly 16k signatures and growing, the pleas to reverse the decision to fire the actress fell on deaf ears. Kelly Monaco rarely posts on social media. Her last post was earlier this month when she shared a heartfelt tribute to Billy Miller on the anniversary of his death.
The actress’s mother, Carmina Monaco, posted on Twitter about Kelly wrapping up filming. According to the social media post, Kelly Monaco’s last day at GH has come and gone. Her last day filming was yesterday, September 27.
ABC has yet to confirm that Kelly Monaco is even leaving, though it was clearly confirmed by her mother and several co-stars. Her final air date as Sam McCall hasn’t been revealed, but GH typically films about a month ahead of when it airs on TV. Jonathan Jackson returned to the set on August 2nd and was back on TV screens on August 23.
Her Mom’s Emotional Tribute
Kelly Monaco’s mother revealed that her daughter’s last day of filming closely mirrored her first day on GH. In a lengthy post, her mom noted that Kelly’s first appearance on the soap aired on October 1, 2003.
Carmina Monaco wrote that it has been “difficult” for the actress to leave the show, but her fans have helped her through. “Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her.”
