‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Want Player To Get Second Chance
Some Jeopardy! contestants might not win the game, but can still win the hearts of fans in the end. One recent contestant didn’t make it through the episode’s Final Jeopardy! question. However, fans are already asking for them to get a second chance.
It All Came Down To Shakespeare & A Certain King Of Scotland
The September 25th episode saw three contestants: Drew Goins, David Erb, and Diane Lochner. Throughout the episode, fans noticed Goins and Erb, who was playing his third consecutive game, in particular went head-to-head with each other.
By the end of the first round, Goins had the lead. However, a Daily Double helped Erb double his score, putting him on top. By Double Jeopardy!, however, Goins got close to Erb, reaching $16,800 and $22,000, respectively. In the end, Final Jeopardy! would decide the winner.
The Final Jeopardy! used “Shakespeare” as a category. The clue was that the title character of a Shakespeare play says “Blood will have blood” and is told “be bloody, bold & resolute.” The correct response was “Who is Macbeth?” In the play, Macbeth‘s title character is given this warning by an apparition summoned by the three witches.
Goins thought the line referred to Titus Andronicus, in addition to sneaking in a “Hi, Dad!” Host Ken Jennings noted that Goins’ response referred to an even “bloodier play.” Losing $5,119, Goins was left with $11,601. For her part, Lochner had the correct response, but a wager of $1,000 only earned her $4,400.
Fans Think A ‘Second Chance’ Is In Order
Erb ultimately won the game in the end. A correct response and a wager of $11,611 brought his score to $33,611. As this was Erb’s third consecutive win, this brought his total to $90,754.
However, fans don’t want to count Goins out just yet. In particular, many are hoping he’ll return to the show for a “Jeopardy! Second Chance Tournament.” This is a two-week event that features players who didn’t win their games.
As TV Insider noted, many fans took to Reddit to share their hopes that Goins will get another chance to win. As one user wrote, “Hopefully Drew is remembered for second chances. To do so well agains David when David found both of the Double Jeopardy Daily Doubles is impressive.” They continued, “David seems to have good sense of what he knows and what he doesn’t, based on his Daily Double betting strategy.”
Another user pointed out that Goins had 22 correct responses, giving him four over David. Another user commented, “If you don’t have that dude in the second chance tournament, then there’s no point in having a second chance tournament.”
