Idris Elba To Work With 'Yellowstone' Actor In Netflix Movie

Idris Elba is set to appear in an upcoming Netflix movie. While much of the film is being kept under wraps, some of the cast and crew have already been announced. In fact, fans of the Yellowstone franchise might recognize one of his co-stars in the project.

Many Of Elba’s Co-Stars Have Been Announced

Actress Aminah Nieves will join Idris Elba for the upcoming film. Nieves is known for her breakout role as Teonna Rainwater in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923. In 1923, Nieves plays a young woman of the Crow people who is put into a government-funded, Indian residential girls’ school.

At this time, not much is known about Nieves’ role in the story. However, Nieves will get to work with a lot of prominent talent both behind and in front of the cameras.

Elba himself has had quite a prolific career. He first arguably came to international prominence through his role in the HBO series The Wire. He would also become known for his role as the title character in the BBC One series, Luther.

Elba has since appeared in a variety of films, such as Thor, its sequels, and Pacific Rim. He also garnered notoriety as a voice actor such as Shere Kan in 2016’s The Jungle Book and Knuckles the Echidna in 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Kathryn Bigelow is set to direct. After making her directorial debut with The Loveless, she became known for projects like Near Dark, Blue Steel, and Zero Dark Thirty. She became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director for The Hurt Locker.

The upcoming project notably serves as Bigelow’s first since 2017’s Detroit. Beforehand, Bigelow was attached to another Netflix project, which would have been based on the David Koepp novel Aurora.

A Mysterious Film

In addition to Idris Elba, Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson is also attached to the project. Ferguson’s breakout role was Elizabeth Woodville for The White Queen. Since then, her filmography has gone on to include the Dune films, The Greatest Showman, and three of the Mission: Impossible films.

The film was first announced by Netflix during the Upfront presentation in New York. This event also saw promotions for Happy Gilmore 2 and The Woman in Cabin 10.

Not much is known about the upcoming film’s plot. However, Deadline reported it would take place at the White House and involve a national crisis. On IMDB, the project is currently listed as “Untitled Kathryn Bigelow feature with Netflix” and was given the following description:

“Centered on White House staffers grappling with an impending missile strike on America, this gripping drama unfolds in real-time as tensions escalate.”

Other cast members for the upcoming Netflix film include Malachi Beasley, Jared Harris, Greta Lee, Gabriel Basso, Tracy Letts, and Moses Ingram.
