Dancing With The Stars Judge Says To Keep Your Eye On This Season 33 Celeb
Season 33 of the popular ABC celebrity dance competition kicked off last week. The 13 celebrities and their pro partners took the dance floor for the first time. Derek Hough is now a judge on the show after years of being a pro himself.
He spoke to soaps.com about his first impressions from night one. He said that he was most surprised by how good Bachelor star Joey Graziadei was. Joey earned a 21 out of 30 with his Cha Cha with Jenna Johnson.
Derek also gave shout-outs to actress Chandler Kinney, Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, and football player Danny Amendola. He added that embattled contestant Anna Delvey is the “dark horse” of the season. The show has been under fire for putting the convicted felon on the 2024 season.
Former Partner He Would Like Another Chance With
Derek Hough is a six-time Mirrorball champ, but there is one partner that got away. He told the outlet that one of his former partners could make him give up his judge chair to return to the dance floor.
He came in second place with Olympic medalist Shawn Johnson in the All-Star season in 2012. She previously won the Mirrorball with Mark Ballas in Season 8.
“I feel like I would need to rectify that and get her another win,” he said of getting another chance with Shawn Johnson.

Derek Hough Reveals Iconic Singer Is His DWTS Dream Partner
Another try at the coveted trophy with Shawn Johnson isn’t Derek Hough’s only DWTS partner. He was asked if there was a celebrity he hadn’t danced with yet who could get him to return as a pro. He revealed iconic singer Celine Dion as his dream partner.
He also named Anya Taylor Joy and Charlize Theron as the celebrities who could get him back on the show as a dancer and not just a judge.
Derek Hough replaced the late Len Goodman as the head judge in 2020. He joined long-time judges Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba.
