Lionel Richie ‘Swooning’ Over New ‘Idol’ Judge Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood is set to join American Idol as its latest judge, following Katy Perry’s departure from the show. However, the new judge already has a fan on the show. A source has claimed Lionel Richie is already eager to meet her.
Richie Himself Also Had A Few Words To Say
Underwood already famously has a history with American Idol. After all, she rose to fame after winning the series fourth season. She has since gone on to become a prominent country singer.
It was announced that Underwood would be returning to the show as its latest judge. This follows singer Katy Perry leaving her position as a judge on the show.
In a statement with Life & Style Magazine, a source revealed that fellow judge Lionel Richie is already a fan. As the source explained, “He’s crushing on her big time and looking forward to getting to know her.”
“He thinks Carrie is the best thing that’s happened to Idol in a long time, and he can’t wait to work with her, side by side.”
Richie himself previously talked about Underwood joining the show with Fox News Digital. As he explained, “I want Carrie to come in and find her person out there, her person.” As he continued, he showed just why he thinks Underwood would be a good addition: “I’m very happy they got Carrie, because … we want someone who is going to bring their light to the table.”
Underwood Will Join The Panel With Richie & Luke Bryan
This isn’t the first time that Underwood has returned to the show. She has also appeared on the series as a mentor.
During Season 16, she mentored the Top Five, who included Gabby Barrett, Cade Foehner, Caleb Hutchinson, Maddie Poppe, and Michael J. Woodard. The five each performed Underwood’s own songs.
Rounding out the panel, Underwood and Richie will be joined by country star Luke Bryan. Both Richie and Bryan joined the series during Season 16 alongside Katy Perry.
Underwood previously talked with SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour about her upcoming role on the show. As she explained, “I think I can be honest and constructive, but still kind.” While talking to host Buzz Brainard, she added, “I think that’s the whole point ’cause people are coming in, and you know…it’s dreams.”
“You’re a part of somebody’s story from that moment on. I think it’s important to be honest, but I think it’s also very important to be kind. Hopefully, I can marry all of those together.”
