The Bachelor franchise debuted on ABC in 2002. The success of the dating show has sparked numerous spinoffs, including The Bachelorette, Bachelor In Paradise, and senior versions The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette.
The premise of the show is one man or woman dating 20-30 suitors at once to hopefully find their future husband or wife. The show almost always ends in an engagement, but only a handful of Bachelor Nation couples have made it down the aisle. Surprisingly, the beach-centric Bachelor In Paradise has the highest rate for successful couples. Season 10 of BIP will air in 2025 after the 2023 season received low ratings.
Season 21 of The Bachelorette ended earlier this month with one of the messiest breakups in franchise history. Jenn Tran and her fiance, Devin Strader, broke up less than three months after their engagement. Gerry Turner’s season of The Golden Bachelor also ended in heartbreak when he announced his divorce from Theresa Nist after three months of marriage.
So, what happens to the custom Neil Lane ring when the couple breaks up? Multiple outlets have reported over the years that the ring gets returned to ABC/Neil Lane if the couple is together for less than two years. If they split up after that, they do get to keep the ring. One engagement ring from an early Bachelor season ended up on eBay.
Neil Lane Reveals Favorite Bachelor Nation Engagement Ring
Creating unique engagement rings for over two decades sounds like a difficult task. But talented celebrity jeweler Neil Lane makes it look easy. He collaborations with the person proposing to get a feel for the intended recipient’s tastes.
He spoke to PEOPLE magazine recently to dish on his favorite piece he’s designed for the franchise. Neil Lane’s favorite design was one of his most recent. He cited the engagement ring he crafted for Season 28 Bachelor Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson.
“I really went backwards in time with the vintage aesthetic,” he said about the emerald-cut design.
Another of Neil Lane’s favorites is the ring he designed for Season 17 Bachelor Sean Lowe to propose to Catherine Giudici. Catherine and Sean recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.
