Fiona Harvey Afraid To Leave Home Following ‘Baby Reindeer’
Fiona Muir-Harvey, who claimed to be the inspiration for Martha on Baby Reindeer, has said that the show has scared her from leaving her own house. The allegedly autobiographical mini-series revolves around an up-and-coming comedian whose life takes a dark turn after a kind gesture. Harvey previously talked about being a possible inspiration for the character on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
The Miniseries Stars The Series’ Creator
Baby Reindeer starts up in a London pub, when an aspiring comedian, Donny Dunn, tries to cheer up a customer named Martha. However, Martha begins to become obsessive with Donny after the kind gesture. After a time-skip, Donny finds a mentor with television writer Darrien O’Connor, who begins to abuse him.
Baby Reindeer has also been the subject of critical acclaim. Most notably, the miniseries won six Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Gadd himself won awards for Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Lead Actor. Jessica Gunning also won Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the Martha character.
The series notably draws from real life. Series creator Richard Gadd, who also plays Donny Dunn, based the series off his own autobiographical one-man show.
Harvey had appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored where she claimed to have been the inspiration for the Martha character.
Since then, Harvey claimed in a statement with the Daily Mail that, thanks to the series, she is now afraid to leave her own home.
Harvey Claims The Show Has Even Impacted Her Health
As Harvey explained, “I am afraid to go outside out of fear of being attacked. Some weeks I do not leave my apartment.”
“I am suffering from, among other things, constant panic attacks, chest pains, anxiety, nightmares, depression, nervousness, stomach pains, loss of appetite, fear and insomnia.”
While on Morgan’s YouTube show, Harvey also alleged the series took liberties with actual events. As she explained, “While the series is based on my life and real-life events…it is not a beat-by-beat recounting of the events and emotions I experienced as they transpired. It is fictionalized and is not intended to portray actual facts.”
Harvey’s lawyer Richard Roth also released the following statement: “The disparate treatment and world in which they live is obvious and apparent. Richard Gadd is now a multiple Emmy award-winning star, solely as a result of Netflix’s fictitious ‘true story’, while she continues to suffer.”
As noted by Yahoo Entertainment, Harvey and her legal team had launched a $170 million lawsuit against Netflix on charges of infliction of emotional distress, negligence and gross negligence. In particular, Harvey denied having any stalking convictions, while Martha was portrayed as a twice-convicted stalker.
The Baby Reindeer miniseries can be streamed on Netflix.
