‘American Idol’ Real Reason Abi Carter Ditched Major Labels
When you’re an American Idol winner like Abi Carter, you would think that the first thing you’d want to do is sign with a major label and get rolling. It turns out, Abi took a completely different path, and she recently broke her silence on why she ditched labels entirely. So, what did she have to say?
American Idol: Abi Carter Took The Crown In Season 22
Abi Carter took home the crown on Season 22 of American Idol. When most contestants go in for an audition, their wildest dream is to one day stand on that big stage and have Ryan Seacrest announce that they beat out the rest to take home the title.
In Abi Carter’s case, this is exactly what happened. Carter beat out other favorites like Will Moseley and Jack Blocker to win the coveted competition. Abi is a truly humble artist, and the shock of winning it all was a lot, even for her to process. However, she proved she had what it took, and America agreed.
Carter Ditched Record Labels
For someone who just won the last season of one of the biggest singing competitions there is, you would think that the first order of business would be to sign to a major label and start making hits. However, when it comes to the path that Abi Carter took since winning the American Idol crown, she took a more unconventional approach to her career.
It turns out, Abi Carter is not currently part of any labels. It may seem like a no-brainer for most to jump at the chance to ink a major label deal, but, Abi clearly went her own way in this regard. She recently dished on why this was the best move for her and her music career moving forward.
American Idol: Abi Carter Reveals Why She Isn’t On A Label
Speaking to Parade about why she chose to make her own path and ditch labels, Abi Carter said: “I’m not signed to a record label. I am currently independent, and I think that that’s a big reason as to why I’m able to find myself and have complete creative freedom. Someday I hope to be with a record label, but I feel like I need to find the right one.”
Abi Carter has released a handful of singles in 2024, and this DIY approach certainly seems to be working out well for her. Even without a label, she has been able to perform and travel, and she has the added benefit of having complete creative freedom over her work. So, while this path may be unconventional, it seems to be the right choice for her.
