Miley Cyrus Sued For Stealing Bruno Mars Song
Miley Cyrus is being sued for stealing Bruno Mars’ song. Cyrus’ hit song ‘Flowers’ is reportedly too similar to a very popular Bruno Mars hit.
Miley Cyrus’ Name In Lights
Miley Cyrus is a singer/songwriter who rose to fame when she starred in the hit Disney Channel series Hannah Montana. Eventually writing music, Cyrus is known for taking risks with her songs and music videos.
For example, she had a hit song, ‘Wrecking Ball’ in 2013. The video showcased her swinging on a wrecking ball half naked as well as fully naked. Cyrus is very much known for doing whatever she wants despite what other people say.
Moreover, when she was on the red carpet, fans were stunned when she pretended to lick her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth’s face. Fans speculated that Hemsworth asked her to “behave.” Then, she removed his hands from her before posing for solo pictures.

Cyrus Can’t Buy Herself Flowers
Miley Cyrus’ most recent album, Endless Summer Vacation, was released in March 2023. The first track is titled ‘Flowers’ and is rumored to be about her relationship with Liam Hemsworth. Additionally, it is meant to be about women’s empowerment.
The couple met while co-starring in the film The Last Song. Cyrus often said how they had great chemistry in their ten-year relationship. However, it seems Hemsworth did not love every part of Cyrus. He didn’t seem to love the supposed “wild” side.
Hemsworth was rumored to have dedicated ‘When I Was Your Man’ by Bruno Mars to Cyrus at their wedding in 2018, and fans believe she drew inspiration from this as well as the fallen relationship to make her hit song.
Now, Cyrus is being sued for her song due to its similarities to Bruno Mars’ hit. Shockingly, Mars is not the one suing Cyrus over the song. It is Tempo Music Investments. The company claims it owns a portion of the track.
Legal Claims
The company has claimed that Cyrus copied the song on purpose. Additionally, they said the ‘Flowers’ melody, harmonies, and chorus almost mimic the 2013 song.
Tempo Music Investments argues that the chord progression and lyrics align with ‘When I Was Your Man’ as well. Furthermore, they believe that ‘Flowers’ could only be written through hearing and using Mars’ song.
Tempo does want money due to the usage, but it does not seem like a specific amount has been requested at this time. Additionally, the company is asking for Miley Cyrus to be prohibited from actions involving the songs.
These include performing ‘Flowers’ and selling it. Therefore, it’s possible that Cyrus could be forced to remove the song from her Endless Summer Vacation album.
Looking at just the chorus of both songs, it can be argued that the two show significant similarities. Cyrus’ chorus begins by saying, “I can buy myself flowers.” Mars’ chorus starts with, “I should have bought you flowers.”
Additionally, the catchy 2023 says, “Talk to myself for hours,” and Mars’ says, “Should’ve gave you all my hours.” Furthermore, Cyrus and Mars’ chorus’ both reference holding hands and dancing. These references do make sense if it is to reference Hemsworth’s song dedication.
