‘GMA’ Robin Roberts’ Surprising Red Carpet Exchange
Robin Roberts stepped out of her normal setting on Good Morning America and onto the red carpet for the Emmy Awards over the weekend. She seemed disappointed after an exchange with her fellow GMA co-star. Continue reading to see why.
Robin Roberts’ Costar Wants To Go To Bed
The GMA legend was all over Emmys coverage this year. Robin Roberts hosted an Emmys special on Friday and then picked up the pre-show coverage on Sunday.
She co-hosted the Emmys red carpet alongside her GMA co-star Will Reeve. During some chitchat between the two, Robin Roberts seemed iffy about Will’s post-Emmy plans.
Over the weekend, Robin posted regular updates on Instagram. She shared a snapshot of herself and Will in the hotel gym. Shortly after, the GMA duo got to look at the Emmys red carpet being set up for the big event.
“Now that we finished working out in the gym. Now we’re gonna work the red carpet,” Robin said in the clip, as she flexed her muscles. “I’m very excited. There’s so much here,” Will replied as they walked down the carpet.
“Can you feel the excitement?” Robin asked. “We are the appetizers for the main course, which is the 76th annual Emmy Awards.” Will chuckled at his colleague’s joke.
Then, Robin Roberts asked her GMA co-star what he wanted to do tonight. “I want to go enjoy and party, but I’m actually gonna go to bed. I’m gonna study,” he said and looked away. “Isn’t that the right answer?” he asked, confused. Then he backtracked, “What do you want me to do?”
20/20 Special Gets Carol Burnett Choked Up Ahead Of Emmys
The pair hosted a one-hour special called On the Red Carpet: Live at the Emmys on Sunday. Before that, Robin Roberts participated in a 20/20 special to preview the Emmys.
Interviews in the special included Emmy-nominated stars from the past and present. Meryl Streep, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short from Only Murders in the Building were all part of the special.
Comedy legend Carol Burnett was also part of the lineup. During her interview with Carol, Robin asked what her favorite award she’d ever received was. Surprisingly, it was not an Emmy. In fact, it wasn’t a Tony or a Grammy either.
Instead, Carol Burnett talked about the first award she ever received in 1952 at UCLA. “Outstanding Newcomer?” Robin asked. Shocked, Carol responded, “You did your homework!”
Then, Robin Roberts revealed a special surprise for Carol Burtnett. The comedy icon has worked with big names throughout her career, but she still has yet to work with Meryl Streep.
Of course, Meryl Streep also participated in the 20/20 special and had a special message for Carol. In a separate interview, Chris Connelly mentioned that Carol has always wanted to work with Meryl. To which the award-winning actress said, “Really? Well, I’m available currently, Carol.”

Robin showed Carol Burnett the clip and she got choked up. “Oh no! That is so sweet,” she said. “I’ve always loved her. She’s not only one of the greatest actresses in the world, but she’s funny, and she sings up a storm. That was so sweet.”
Both women were nominees for an Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. Liza Colón-Zayas wound up bringing home the award for her performance on The Bear.
