New Luther Vandross Documentary Coming, Watch Trailer
A new Luther Vandross documentary will be released in 2024. The documentary will tell the life story of the popular R&B singer/songwriter and will hit theaters this year. However, there are also big plans to stream and watch it at home.
Here is what you need to know about Luther: Never Too Much, including when it hits theaters and when it will come to streaming to watch at home.
Luther Vandross Documentary: What To Know
Luther Vandross is a famed soul and R&B singer/songwriter who sold over 40 million albums over his 35-year musical career. While he died relatively young at 54 in 2005, his musical career was one that almost anyone would strive to have. The documentary Luther: Never Too Much will tell his story.
Rolling Stone Magazine named Luther Vandross one of the 200 greatest singers of all time, and his output warrants the praise. He had 11 straight platinum albums in his career. Vandross won eight Grammy Awards. He even won Song of the Year in 2004 for a song he recorded right before his death. In 2021, the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame posthumously inducted him.
Dawn Porter has created documentaries about people like Bobby Kennedy, John Lewis, and Vernon Jordan. She has worked with Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry. She has now directed Luther: Never Too Much about the beloved singer.
Porter follows Vandross through his close to 40 years in the entertainment industry. It will include touchy subjects, such as the negative media attention on his weight and sexuality. There is archived interview footage with Luther and many interviews with those who knew him. “Never Yoo Much” is the name of one of his songs.
Dawn took the documentary to the Sundance Film Festival this year. She also signed deals to bring it to theaters and to streaming.
When Will Luther Vandross Documentary Premiere?
Luther: Never Too Much will hit theaters this year. The official date it arrives in theaters is November 1, 2024. There are already sneak peek previews at AMC theaters that will take place before its official premiere.
“Back in the day, if you wanted to fall in love, you let Luther do the work for you,” producer Jamie Foxx said (via PEOPLE). “So I would put the phone up to the radio — and what’s crazy is you had to wait for it to come on the radio.”
Anyone who wants to see Luther: Never Too Much at home will have to wait until 2025. However, the good news is that there will be lots of options. It will premiere on CNN, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, and Max in 2025.
