‘Big Brother’ Julie Chen Moonves Missing From Live Eviction, Why?
Big Brother Season 26 took an unexpected turn on Thursday night. The live eviction saw a surprising houseguest get the boot and Julie Chen Moonves was missing from the live show for the first time ever. Keep reading to see why.
Why Wasn’t Julie Chen Moonves On Big Brother?
Fans were surprised to see that Julie wasn’t on Thursday night’s episode of Big Brother. It was the first time in the show’s history that the host wouldn’t be present for the live eviction. Instead, Jerry O’Connell stepped up to fill her spot.
Kimo Apaka and Quinn Martin were on the chopping block. Many BB fans were eager to see who would be eliminated. Ahead of the airing of the live show, Julie Chen Moonves informed fans that she wouldn’t be there.
Hours before the episode was slated to air, she took to Instagram to share the unfortunate news with fans. She wrote, “Friday morning I woke up with a sore throat and went to see my good friend who is an ENT. That night he called to say I have COVID. Thankfully, this is only the second time for me and it’s been very mild. No fever and just a sore throat.”
Her statement continued, “Unfortunately, I am still testing positive as of this morning… despite feeling good, strong and my cough being gone, I must sit tonight’s ‘Big Brother’ live eviction show out.”
Julie went on to thank Jerry O’Connell for filling in for her. Joking, she wrote, “I hope Jerry fits into my dress, has a ball and tells the houseguests I miss them but will be watching from home.”
“See? Chenbot is human after all!” the Big Brother host joked, before concluding her statement with her signature sign-off. “Love one another and enjoy tonight’s show.”
Julie Made CBS History Missing The Show
For his part, Jerry O’Connell also shared the news on his social media. Julie called into the Thursday episode of The Talk to give him some advice ahead of hosting the live show.
This was the first time that Julie had missed a Big Brother live eviction episode since the show made its debut in July 2000. She even continued to host the show throughout Season 11 when she could’ve gone into labor at any moment. They had Survivor host Jeff Probst enlisted as her backup, but she never called him in.
Quinn Martin wound up being sent home on Thursday and he was disappointed in the house’s decision. He told everyone they were “lame” before exiting the Big Brother house.
Leah Peters is the new Head of Household for this week. Fans will have to tune in to see how Leah’s reign plays out. Big Brother airs on Sunday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on CBS. Live Feeds can be watched on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
