Jonathon Johnson Talks Losing Out On ‘Bachelor’ Role
ABC named Grant Ellis as the next Bachelor last month. His season will air in early 2025. Bachelorette fan-favorite Jonathon Johnson opened up about losing out on the role. Keep reading for more.
Jonathon Johnson Talks Losing Out On Bachelor Role
Grant Ellis didn’t have a strong presence on Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette. She sent him home in Week 6, right before Hometowns. ABC made the stunning announcement that he was the next Bachelor lead immediately after viewers watched his elimination.
It was a huge surprise because the next lead announcement usually happens at the end of the previous season, not in the middle of it. And as previously mentioned, he didn’t have much of a connection with viewers at that point.
Bachelorette viewers were more connected to Jonathon Johnson, who was the third-place runner-up. But instead of being the next Bachelor, Jonathon was the first Bachelor Nation alum to get a spot on Season 10 of Bachelor In Paradise. He accepted the offer, but the spinoff won’t air until next year, so he may not even be single at that point.
Jonathon Johnson recently appeared on Nick Viall’s Viall Files podcast. He addressed losing out on the Bachelor role to Grant Ellis. Surprisingly, Jonathon revealed that he was never actually approached for the role.
“Nobody asked. Not even topic of discussion,” he said. He later added, “Nobody even said keep an eye out.”
Hints At Possible Reconciliation With Jenn Tran
If Bachelor Nation fans get their way, Jonathon Johnson will be boo’d up by next year anyway. Viewers have been begging him to reunite with Jenn Tran after the way he gushed over her on the Men Tell All special.
The two have been milking the attention with multiple TikToks teasing the status of their relationship. Jenn Tran is temporarily living in Los Angeles, where Jonathon lives, while competing on Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars.

“It’s not to say that it could not ever happen,” he admitted to Nick Viall about rekindling his romance with Jenn Tran.
Jonathon Johnson clearly holds his ex in high regard. He took to his Instagram last week to share a sweet tribute post. “I am so incredibly honored to have been a part of Jenn’s journey! She has been an inspiration to women everywhere and I’m so proud of the way she carried herself throughout this process,” he wrote in the lengthy caption.
He added that they will make “some really awesome memories” while she’s in L.A..
