Reginald VelJohnson Unimpressed With Jaleel White On ‘DWTS’
Plenty of Dancing With The Stars fans felt excited to see a familiar face join the cast this fall. Family Matters and Die Hard actor Reginald VelJohnson is going to step into the ballroom with Emma Slater.
He’s not the only Family Matters actor to appear on DWTS. However, VelJohnson recently revealed he isn’t taking advance from his former costar.
Reginald VelJohnson Feels Ready For DWTS This Fall
Emma Slater admitted she was so excited to have actor Reginald VelJohnson as a partner that she burst into tears when meeting him.
“He’s very, very charming,” Emma shared with PEOPLE. “It makes my job easy. I’m teaching him steps, we’re going slow and going over it, and he’ll put his charm and charisma in there and it’s really all you need. It’s really about that personality.”
Reginald VelJohnson added that Emma was an incredibly warm person and he was learning a lot from her.
“Dancing With The Stars is a lot about trust,” the British dancer continued “You have to have trust in your celebrity partner, and the celebrity partner has to have trust in the pro partner. We established that straight away. And I’m honestly a massive fan. I wanted him to know, you can lean on me, I’m going to take care of you. I’m going to make this experience very enjoyable for you.”
Although Reginald VelJohnson has a great partnership with Emma Slater, he also has many colleagues who have competed on the show before. However, he isn’t interested in getting advice from them.
The Actor Didn’t Want To Hear Jaleel White’s Tips
It’s not at all uncommon for DWTS contestants to ask their friends for tips. His Family Matters costar Jaleel White previously competed, but VelJohnson admitted he didn’t take anything away from it.
In the PEOPLE interview, VelJohnson said that he didn’t learn a thing from watching Jaleel White participate during his season. He competed on DWTS Season 14 with Kym Johnson. The pair came in 8th place.
However, VelJohnson’s disinterest may not be anything personal. In previous interviews, he’s had many positive things to say about Jaleel White. Instead, Reginald VelJohnson seems focused on forging his own path in the ballroom.
“I haven’t talked to anybody. … I wanna do my own thing,” the Family Matters actor told Us Weekly. “If I fall, I fall. If I don’t, I don’t. And it’s on me, not anybody else.”
