It has been a tough couple of weeks for Mariah Carey. She lost both her mother and her sister on the same day in August. Recently, Carey broke her silence on how she has been doing. So, what did she have to say?
Mariah Carey Dealing With Double The Tragedy
As anyone who has been through tragic loss knows, dealing with just one loss is tragic enough. In Mariah Carey’s case, she has been dealing with tragedy that has been two-fold. It turns out, not only did she lose her mother recently, but, she lost her sister as well.
If one of those pills was not hard enough to swallow, it turns out that she lost her mother and sister on the same day in August. So, Carey has been dealing with a double dose of loss. Naturally, this has not been an easy period for her, as she both mourns and finds a way to move on.
Carey Dealing With Painful Loss
Speaking to PEOPLE in August about the painful double loss, Mariah Carey said: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
At the time, the Grammy winner went on to add: “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Of course, dealing with this type of loss is hard enough by itself. However, when you’re a global icon like Mariah Carey is, dealing with tragedy like this in the public eye is extra difficult. As for Carey, she has been doing her best to both mourn and stay busy with upcoming projects as a way to help her cope.
Mariah Carey Opens Up About Tragic Losses
Mariah Carey recently shared rehearsal footage with her many followers online, as she is preparing for some upcoming shows. Sometimes, when it comes to dealing with loss, the best thing people can do is keep themselves busy with work and other projects. This certainly seems to be what the singer is doing to help her cope with this difficult time of mourning.

In addition to sharing rehearsal clips with her many followers, Mariah Carey wrote: “Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you!”
