Selena Gomez on Waverly Place

Selena Gomez got her start in the acting world with her friend Demi Lovato. The two were featured on Barney and Friends when they were just about 10 years old.

When Gomez was about 15, she got her big break starring on Wizards of Waverly Place. The hit Disney Channel show followed the Russo family as they attempted to live normal lives while training to become the family wizard.

Battle With Illness

Selena Gomez wants to start a family but explained to her interviewer at Vanity Fair that she has fertility issues due to her medical illnesses. In 2013, the star was diagnosed with lupus and went through a kidney transplant in 2017. Additionally, she told Rolling Stone back in 2022 that she would most likely be unable to carry her kids because of the medication she takes for bipolar disorder.

In her interview with Vanity Fair, Gomez shared: “I haven’t ever said this, but unfortunately I can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Gomez shared her desire to be a mom in 2022 and still feels that way today. She explained that: “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. [But] I’m in a much better place with that.”

Gomez still considers surrogacy and adoption options for her despite these obstacles. She is “really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’

For those unaware, Gomez is very happily in love with record producer and songwriter, Benny Blanco. Gomez shared what a unique experience she has had in their relationship as it’s nothing like anything she’s experienced before. Gomez describes Blanco as her best friend and the light of her life.

He is rumored to be the subject of a lot of her songs such as ‘Lose You To Love Me.’ She has also reportedly dated stars like The Weekend and Nick Jonas.

Gomez shared that she was single for 5 years before entering her relationship with Blanco. Despite the desire to get married to Blanco, Gomez has made it clear that: “I’m not changing my name no matter what. I am Selena Gomez. That’s it.”

On top of spending time with her amazing boyfriend, Gomez stars in the Hulu series, Only Murders In The Building and is in the recently released film, Emilia Perez. Gomez is also set to make an appearance in the first episode of the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot and be an executive producer for the series.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is set to premiere on October 29th on Disney Channel and stream on Disney Plus on October 30th. Additionally, the star created the Rare Beauty cosmetic line.
