Legendary actor James Earl Jones has sadly passed away at the age of 93. He was technically an EGOT, which is extremely rare, thanks to an honorary Oscar he won in 2011. So, what is known about his death and who does he leave behind aside from legions of fans? Keep reading for more details.

It is the unmistakable voice that is immediately recognizable. That is how fans will forever remember James Earl Jones who has starred in films and television of all genres. He spent a lot of time on stage in productions such as Othello, Of Mice and Men, and On Golden Pond. Yet, it was his turn as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars that became synonymous with JEJ. He continued as the iconic voice behind Vader but a new generation would come to know him as another beloved character. James took on the role of Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King.

He also had a knack for comedy, starring in the Eddie Murphy hit, Coming to America along with its sequel. Plus, he narrated Scary Movie 4. There were also his thrillers like Patriot Games and The Hunt for Red October. As for television, James starred in Gabriel’s Fire, The Simpsons, 3rd Rock From the Sun, and Will & Grace. There was nothing that he could not do hence why he garnered a Grammy, multiple Tonys, and two Emmys as well as his honorary Oscar. Sadly, he has passed away, his rep confirmed to Variety. James Earl Jones died on Monday, September 9th, 2024.


He passed in his Dutchess County, New York home at the age of 93 and was predeceased by his second wife, Cecilia Hart. James had one child and a BA from the University of Michigan. Despite being known for his booming voice, he had a stutter as a child. This caused him to become mute for several years. Eventually, he overcame that and became one of the most well-known performers of all time. He spanned decades, generations, and genres, impacting all who knew his work.
