Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Detained By Police Before Season Start
Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins has been detained by police. A video has surfaced online with Hill being placed in handcuffs near Hard Rock Stadium. Notably, the incident occurred right before the season opener.
A Video Has Been Shared On Social Media
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed reports of Hill’s detainment on X. As he wrote, “Tyreek Hill was cited for reckless driving after being pulled over for speeding, per @JeffDarlington . Hill and a police officer had a verbal altercation that led to the receiver being put in handcuffs.” Schefter also shared comments from Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
The incident has already drawn attention on social media. On X, uSTADIUM uploaded a video outside Hard Rock Stadium, claiming that, “WR was arrested this morning on the way to Dolphins opening game.”

Hill Is Still Expected To Play
According to Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, he is still expected to play in today’s game in spite of the incident. Adam Schefter confirmed this on social media, writing, “Drew Rosenhaus: ‘I just left Tyreek and he is getting ready to play today.'”
According to USA Today, the Miami Dolphins also released the following statement confirming Hill would play:
“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support.”
“Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
The publication also made note that Rosenhaus released the following statement, describing what happened as a “heartbreaking situation.”
“Obviously, I love Tyreek, I hated to see him in the situation he was in with the police. He is gonna play today. Number one, he’s OK. Number two, he’s gonna play. Number three, apparently he got a ticket for a moving violation entering the stadium. How things escalated into the situation that they were in in handcuffs and being held on the ground with police is mind-boggling to me. I’m deeply concerned by that, very troubled.”
“We will be looking into it, we will be investigating this, we will look out for Tyreek. But I’m not gonna make any allegations at this time. The most important thing is that Tyreek is OK – physically. Mentally, he was very distraught about what happened.”
As Newsweek pointed out, the altercation mustn’t have been too serious, which will allow Hill to play. However, the publication noted that it was still unusual to see a player get detained near a stadium, as well as so close to an upcoming game. Hill has already proven himself as an asset to the Dolphins, helping to make their offense one of the NFL’s best. Last season, Hill had 119 catches for 1,799 yards with 13 touchdowns.
Currently, it looks like the Miami Dolphins are hoping to use Hill to end a long winning drought after being bounced out in the wild-card round.
