Why Is Michael Keaton Changing His Name After 50 Years?
Michael Keaton is one of the most recognized actors in all of Hollywood. Recently, the legendary actor announced that he would be changing his name for the first time in nearly 50 years. So, why is the Batman actor doing this after all this time?
Michael Keaton Has A Legendary Acting Career Spanning Decades
When you think of both versatility and longevity in Hollywood, Michael Keaton is one of those names that comes up. He has had some iconic roles over the years, including in the cult classic Beetlejuice. He is also one of the few actors out there capable of saying that they have been Batman as well.
He is right at home making comedic turns as he is playing the hero or the villain. Not a lot of working actors out there today can brag about this level of versatility and actually back it up. Michael Keaton is exactly that kind of actor, and his extensive resume speaks for itself.
Keaton Making A Drastic Change For The First Time In Nearly 50 Years
Many fans of Michael Keaton may not know this, but his last name is not actually Keaton. The actor’s birth name is actually Michael Douglas. Further proof of this is the name his son goes by, songwriter Sean Douglas. For the first time in decades, Keaton announced that he would be going through a name change.
If you’re wondering why the actor did not decide to go with his birth name all those years ago, it’s because the Screen Actor’s Guild has a rule that no two actors can have the same name. As many people know, there’s already a famous Michael Douglas. So, it made sense at the time why Keaton had to change his name.

Of course, the natural question people might have is, how can Michael Keaton get around that ruling by the Screen Actor’s Guild when the other Michael Douglas is still around at 79 years old. According to Keaton, he did come up with a solution for this.
It turns out, he plans on combining his stage and birth name to create Michael Keaton Douglas. This is a bit more of a mouthful, for sure, but, it’s essentially a way to kill two birds with one stone, as well as a way to get around that pesky ruling by the Screen Actor’s Guild.
