‘DWTS’ Does Eric Roberts’ Family Support His Decision To Join?

Like many other contestants, Roberts admits he’s nervous to step into the ballroom. However, he has an amazing dance partner willing to show him the ropes.
But how exactly does Eric Roberts’ family feel about him joining the competition?
Eric Roberts Dishes On His Famous Family & Choice To Join DWTS
Eric Roberts reportedly did not tell anyone but his wife he planned to compete on Dancing With The Stars this year. But now that the cat’s out of the bag, he’s shedding light on the situation. In a new interview with PEOPLE, Roberts discussed how his famous family reacted to his choice to join the show.
“I’ll have to ask them,” he laughed. But when PEOPLE asked if his family would watch him dance, the actor happily replied, “Of course, they will!”
Eric Roberts is the brother of Julia Roberts and the father of Emma Roberts. He loves his family immensely, but both women have reportedly asked him not to speak about them to the media.
“I’m not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do,” Roberts told the Still Here Hollywood podcast over the summer.
“I’m in love with my daughter’s work these days,” the actor shared on the podcast regarding Emma Roberts’ work. “I can’t believe how great she’s become. I’m so proud of her I can’t see straight.”
DWTS Reportedly Wanted The Dark Knight Actor Years Ago
Eric Roberts is excited about competing on DWTS Season 33. However, this isn’t the first time the casting department reached out to him. According to the actor, he was initially supposed to compete in Season 1 back in 2005.
“I was the first person they offered this show to 19 years ago,” the 68-year-old told Us Weekly. “And I was in China making a movie and [had] a one-day overlap, and the movie wouldn’t let me go. So, here I am.”
Since then, Roberts has gone on to have two titanium hip replacements. But even so, his pro partner Britt Stewart says that won’t be a problem. She’s excited to teach him some steps. According to Eric Roberts, he couldn’t have asked for a better partner.

“This is hard and I’m not a dancer. She is a dancer, and she has to talk from the ground up with me and I felt terrible,” the actor continued. “But she makes me happy every day.”
Watch Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart compete for the Mirrorball Trophy when DWTS Season 33 premieres. The first episode kicks off at 8 PM Eastern time on Tuesday, September 17 on ABC.
