On Wednesday, Candace Cameron Bure went to Instagram to remember and mourn the death of her father-in-law Vladimir Bure. The 46-year-old star shared a cornucopia of personal photos of him, along with a heartfelt tribute. It began, “Our hearts are broken as we grieve the loss of Val’s dad Vladimir Bure.” She then continued with her own personal message.
I loved this man so very much. To me, he represented not only the gift of life (my husband) that I am forever grateful for, but one of strength, dedication, motivation, resilience, willpower and love. In my mind, he was the epitome of each of those words, a little bit super human in some way.
CCB also commemorated her late father-in-law’s incredible sports career. She shared that he was a “4x Olympic medalist in swimming and a 2x Stanley Cup winning coach for the New Jersey Devils.”
Next, the Full House star focused on family. “He was a proud father, grandfather, husband and dedicated coach. Most of all, I know how much he loved his family.”
Lastly, Candace focused on faith. “Thank you for praying for all of the Bure family as we grieve❤️🩹💔🙏🏻. We love you Vladimir and you’ll forever be in our hearts.”

Vladimir Bure Was An Olympic Swimmer & Stanley Cup Winning Coach
Candace Cameron Bure’s late father-in-law Vladimir Bure was born on December 4, 1950, in Norilsk, Russia, about 170 miles north of the Arctic Circle. His family originated from Furna, Switzerland. Moreover, the Bure family made precious and bespoke watches for the Russian tsars from 1815 to 1917. This gave the family noble status.
Vladimir was considered a swimming legend for the USSR. He competed for the Soviet Union in the 1968, 1972, and 1976 Olympics, winning four medals in swimming. One was an individual medal for 100m, while the other three were for relays. However, his dream was to play hockey.
He remained in sports after his two sons, Pavel Bure, born in 1971, and Valeri Bure, CCB’s husband, born in 1974. Vladimir coached Pavel and Val in hockey and had his sites on big NHL dreams for his sons. Therefore, in 1991, he and his sons moved to Los Angeles. Both of Vladimir’s sons had successful NHL careers. The brothers are also Olympians, both playing for Team Russia in the 1998 Nagano Silver Medal team and the 2002 Salt Lake City Bronze winning team. Pavel Bure is in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Vladimir Bure also lived his own NHL dream. He did so by coaching with the New Jersey Devils. They won two Stanley Cups when he was part of the coaching staff. His name is the cup for the 2000 and the 2003 Stanley Cup Championship wins.
Vladimir Bure died on September 3 at the age of 73.
Our deepest sympathy to Candace Cameron Bure, Val Bure, and their entire family.
