Simon Cowell Gives Carrie Underwood Judging Advice

Carrie Underwood is an American Idol alum so she was the perfect choice to be Katy Perry’s replacement. Katy exited the show at the end of last season so she could focus on her music. Many people threw their hat in the ring including fellow Idol alum Jordin Sparks. Other names were thrown around like Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus, and Jon Bon Jovi but, in the end, it was Carrie who took the chair. Carrie will sit beside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie but when she was a contestant, there were three OG judges.

Simon Cowell, Paul Abdul, and Randy Jackson were the first three judges of American Idol. They helped to mentor the contestants which included winners Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia Barrino, Scotty McCreery, and Carrie. Eventually, the show changed and the judges moved on, and new people were brought in. Then, the show left FOX and went to ABC. Over on ABC, Katy, Luke, and Lionel were brought in. As aforementioned, Katy decided to leave and the search was on. Now, they have chosen Carrie but what advice does former judge, Simon, have for her?

First off, according to E! News, Simon Cowell is thrilled with the network having selected Carrie:

“I think it’s a good choice. Carrie, we go back a long way. I remember her audition like it was yesterday. She was so good, she’s such a sweet person.”

That’s a huge honor coming from someone like Simon who was always the harshest critic on Idol. Along with his praise, he had some suggestions as to how to properly judge:

“You just gotta say how you feel. It’s not that difficult doing this job, I promise you. We all feel the same things and we don’t agree, thank God. Otherwise, life would be boring. And just enjoy it.”

Carrie Is Ready To Roll

After being announced as the new American Idol judge, Carrie Underwood shared her goals as a judge:

“I like to think that I am versatile and, hopefully, when I listen to people come and audition, I can have any lens I need to put on in terms of what music I’m thinking.”

Yet, she already knows that she won’t be as cold as Simon Cowell was. Rather, her approach will be as nice as possible but constructive, all the same:

“I think I can be honest and constructive, but still kind. And I think that’s the whole point, because people are coming in and it’s dreams. You’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.”

Viewers are so excited for her to make her debut and she seems ready to sit in the judge’s chair. This will be interesting as she is not just a judge and a mentor but an alum.
