‘Baywatch’ Producers Told Carmen Electra She Was ‘Too Heavy’
The new Hulu documentary After Baywatch has again piqued interest in the former beloved lifeguard show. One of the former stars appearing in the documentary is Carmen Electra, who played Lani McKenzie in Season 8. She has been out promoting the documentary and recently made a shocking statement.
Here is what Carmen said producers told her when she was on the show.
Baywatch Star Carmen Electra Says Producers Called Her ‘Heavy’
Carmen Electra starred in Baywatch Season 8 as Lani McKenzie. She followed in the footsteps of other former Playboy playmates like Pamela Anderson (C.J.) and Erika Eleniak (Shauni) on the show. However, while she was a centerfold model, producers seemed to want her to lose more weight for the role.
In an interview during the After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun premiere, she spoke to reporters about her time on the show. “[Producers would] come up to you and just say, ‘You need to lose some pounds,’” Carmen admitted. “I panicked. It made me so insecure and so uncomfortable.”
However, despite these moments, Carmen said that she still loved her season on the show. “I was doing things I would never [have] imagined I could do, like tandem surfing,” she said. Electra remembers this was one of her “proudest moments” on the water.
She also said that people still come up to her with memories of the show. “I still run in slow motion for people; it’s become this worldwide thing,” Carmen said. “I’m game. I love it. I teach people how to do it … it’s fun.”
The Weight Concerns Were Bad On Baywatch
While this seems concerning, it wasn’t just limited to women. After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun reveals that the demands to remain in peak condition and appearance was a rule for men and women on the show.

Billy Warlock, who played Eddie Kramer on Baywatch, said that producers would always come in and start judging everyone. He said they needed to make sure the women’s breasts looked great and the men’s abs were defined. If anyone slipped up, they could be gone. “Everybody was disposable,” Billy remembered in the documentary.
Nicole Eggert regrets getting breast implants for the show. Traci Bingham said, “The whole look was huge boobs, the bigger the better.” When the producers told him he needed to buff up, Jeremy Jackson hired a personal trainer.
The only person who seemed not to conform was Alexandra Paul. “No matter what I do, I’m never gonna do that sexy thing as well as the other actresses. So I said I’m gonna be more me.”
