Soap Opera Network broke the news late Monday, August 26, that Kelly Monaco was leaving General Hospital after over 20 years. The news was a complete shock to fans and, reportedly, to the actress as well.
She joined the soap as Sam McCall in 2003 and was part of the show’s announcement in January 2024 that Steve Burton was returning as Jason. Jason and Sam are one of the most popular couples on the show.
The news came amid a major shakeup behind the scenes with the writing team and ongoing casting changes. Jonathan Jackson recently returned as Lucky and the show plans to recast his younger sister, Lulu.
Angry Kelly Monaco fans are flooding the General Hospital Instagram page with complaints about the casting decision.

The exact details about Kelly Monaco’s exit are still in question. One source claimed on social media that she will only be in six more episodes, while another claimed six weeks.

General Hospital is rumored to be killing Sam McCall off. Some fans speculate that Sam’s death could result in Lulu getting the liver transplant she needs to survive.
Given her connection to Sonny and Jason, Sam could also be the target of a mob hit gone wrong, like Lily all those years ago.

What are the GH writers thinking firing Kelly Monaco. She is a huge staple of this show, I think a lot of viewers will stop watching including myself. If you are trying to bring the ratings down around be cancelled you are on the right track.
