Mariah Carey is in deep mourning right now as she has just suffered the tragic loss of both her mother and her sister. They both died on the same day over the weekend but how did it happen? More so, what does the iconic singer have to say about this devastating turn? Keep reading for more details.
Mariah Carey Shares Tragic Death Of Mom & Sister
For decades, Mariah Carey has been one of the most influential singers in the history of music. It is not Christmas until her music starts playing and fans are in awe of her pipes. Even if she has a misstep, it is easily forgiven because it is Mariah. Over the years, she has created her own family. With her second husband, Nick Cannon, she has twins, Monroe and Moroccan who are now thirteen. She has continued to enjoy her life and will begin touring at the end of 2024.
Unfortunately, she has just been struck with devastating news that no one wants to hear. Mariah’s mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison both passed away this weekend. Not just that but it happened on the same day, according to People. As of now, their causes of death are unknown but Mariah did have this to say:
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Mariah and her mother long had a rollercoaster relationship. Luckily, they mended fences before she passed, even singing together. In fact, they were together just before Patricia died, as the five-time Grammy winner shared:
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Patricia was married to Mariah Carey’s father, Alfred until she was three. She was a Juilliard-trained opera singer as well as a vocal coach. Then, Patricia and Alfred became parents to Alison, Mariah, and a son, Morgan. Mariah was well aware her mother tried in life and dedicated some of her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, to Patricia:
“And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”
Love For A Sister
As complicated as Mariah Carey’s relationship was with Patricia, it was not easy with Alison or her brother Morgan. She shared this in her memoir, saying it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with them. After fans learned of the passing of Patricia and Alison, they immediately sent their condolences:

This will undoubtedly be the hardest thing that Mariah will ever have to go through but she has so much love and support. Hopefully, that will carry her through these very dark days. Sending love and light to Mariah and all who knew and loved Patricia and Alison.
