Keith Urban Says Carrie Underwood Different From Other Judges
Former American Idol judge Keith Urban says that new judge, Carrie Underwood is different from the current ones they have. Katy Perry exited at the end of last season to focus on music. So, the search was on and many people put their hat in the ring. Yet, Carrie, who won Season 4 in 2005, became the chosen one. So, what does Keith believe she brings to the table? Keith Urban Says Carrie Underwood Different From Other Judges
Carrie Underwood was part of the first generation of American Idol stars along with Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, and many more. The judges were Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson. Eventually, there was an evolution and Keith Urban became a judge. Alongside him were Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. The show moved networks and Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie came on board and now, Katy is gone with Carrie coming in.
This makes perfect sense as she has been through the competition so she more than knows what it takes to succeed. That being said, Keith believes she is different than the other sitting judges. More so, she brings more than Luke and Lionel do, according to American Songwriter. He is an enthusiast for Carrie for many of the aforementioned reasons, one in particular: she has been on the show. She knows what it takes and he thinks she is “perfect”:
“She knows exactly what everybody on the other side of the desk is going through. Lionel doesn’t. Luke doesn’t. She’s going to bring something really extraordinary to that seat.”
It appears that Lionel Richie also agrees with Keith Urban on why Carrie will be a phenomenal judge:
“Now we don’t have to explain anymore, ‘We know how you feel.’ As artists, we know how you feel, but we’ve never been in that oval that says, ‘American Idol.’ She’s been there, done that.”
Jordin Sparks wanted to be a judge because she could also empathize with what the contestants were going through. She won the show in Season 6 and immediately threw her hat in the ring when Katy Perry shared she was leaving.
