How Are ‘WCTH’ Stars Mystery Characters Different?
Hearties have been watching WCTH stars Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith’s characters Rosemary and Leland Coulter for over a decade now. They know the on-screen couple and their sense of humor. Now, Hutton and Smith are starring in the new Hallmark Mystery movie Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement.

How Are WCTH Stars Mystery Characters Different?
Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith are well-known for portraying Rosemary and Lee Coulter in WCTH. However, this time, they are starring as romantic interests in a new Hallmark Mystery. This is called The Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement. Pascale and Kavan spoke to TV Insider about their wish to do a mystery, as well as their roles in Nelly Knows Mysteries.
This mystery is something they have been trying to do for years. Kavan admits, “We thought this ship had sailed.” They had been pitching ideas and trying to make something work. Now, they have their chance. Best of all, Pascale revealed that they knew this was a perfect script for them. She shared that Kavan had read it and relayed to her that it was a “slam dunk” for the two actors who have played romantic parters for over a decade.
Now they are portraying Nelly and Michael. How are these characters different?
Firstly, Kavan shared that his character Detective Michael looks a little “scruffier” than Hope Valley businessman Leland Coulter. “I wanted something physically different for this character because I didn’t want to look like Lee, so he’s a little scruffier. You can see the wrinkles on his face a bit more. He’s got a leather jacket. It’s a very different look.”
Next, Pascale acknowledges that there is a similarity between Rosemary and Nelly. “Rosemary always has that kind of performance vibe, of like very grand [and] taking up space. Nelly sort of does, too, but in a completely different way.”
She then clarified what makes Nelly a little different. “She’s quite quirky. She almost perceives to be bubbly, but she actually has things totally under control.”
What Is WCTH Star’s New Mystery About?

According to the Hallmark synopsis, “When advice columnist Nelly finds her childhood friend Dahlia’s boyfriend dead, she joins Detective Michael to help find the killer and prove that prime suspect Dahlia is not the killer.”

The premiere of Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement is on Friday, August 23, at 9 p.m., Eastern, on Hallmark Mystery.
